Will there be a STO Opening Trailer?

I'm not a cinematic guy. Give me great gameplay mechanics, not 3:52 of fluff. I wouldn't mind if STO did no Cinematic stuff or cutscenes what so ever. Other things are much more important :)

Sure it can be creative without opening cutscenes or whatever, but you have to understand this game isn't just ment for hardcore MMO players. People want to know what they are entering, you cant just bring someone into the world and be on your way. The STO cinematic was to present the world that players will be entering. EVE Online did the same, and so did SWG.

Its just a way to present the players the background of the game without giving into much depth and just ruins the experience.

Although obviously I would really like to see an opening video like this, I don't really feel like it is a necessity as long as the gameplay is good. In fact, sometimes I feel as though having such a cinematic opening can kind of be jarring if it looks considerably different from the game, but if one were to be made with a lot of in-game footage then I think it would provide an excellent introduction to the game's universe overall. In addition, I think that having an opening trailer like this is a good way to generate hype for the game, so I am hopeful that Cryptic Studios will at least consider making one at some point down the line -- even if it is rather short.

Please remember its coming upto a year for the forums launch and a little after that a year since the Vegas launch. They're bound to give us something big for these events.

I'm hoping a new trailer, game play footage, or even, Praying to God, the beta launch.

Great so that covers the hardcore Trek fans. However, a little more is needed to appeal to the general public. Unless of course you just want STO to be a niche game(like EVE) :o

Personally I prefer gameplay vids, or full trailers that use only gameplay footage. When I look at some awesome cinematic, then get ingame and see that it's not as polished, clean or fluid, I tend to feel a bit let down.
