well that was a waste of 3 minutes.
summary for those who dont want to read:
TTH: So did the movie change the game?
Craig: No we knew about it. Also, we're putting in name filters so you won't see Jan-Luck Pacard, though some things will slip by, and we want them to. Goodbye.

not really? what, did you honestly think they were not going to have any missions involving red matter or time travel or the mirror universe?

Nope, but then again I am not being cynical and unappreciative for actual extra incites to what is going on either.

honestly, im tired of Cryptic's fake answers and question doding. But at the same time i appreciate the time craig took to answer these questions.
either way, its a waste of an interview.

Fake answers? I don't think Cryptic can't help some of the interviewers asking the same questions,a nd honestly, some questions can't be answered right now most likely cause things are in flux and likely to change. It's not question dodging when they say, we can't answer that. You may wish to rephrase what you are saying, baiscally.

Monthly Fee: N/A, as opposed to TBA.. hint hint hint? :D :p

The bit about crews coming together almost seems to hint that we'll get our bridge crew one at a time over the course of the game. Maybe start out with two or three, and gradually get more through missions, getting bigger ships, etc...

I agree. Useless. I am so tired of these preview pieces from every upcoming MMO that says and explains nothing. And this is "interview" is a complete oddball in that it is barely about the game at all. Useless.
The "interviewer" seems more pleased with the cleverness or up-to-moment currentness of his questions rather than asking something relevant and expecting a relevant response.

I got that impression as well, so long as we start with a good "core group" I'll actually be perfectly fine with that.

actually, to me, it felt more of a "hey, can we give you an interview about how the star trek movie does not influence our game at all except that romulus and spock are gone? thanks."

As long as we can have the new Constitution class(If not the apple mac bridge, then at least the shell:P) in game I don't mind how the new movie effects the game.
Very interesting about the bridge crew, I like the idea that it expands with you and you can have actual story's with them instead of just here you are now you can make your pretend story's. Hopefully it is how I have interrupted it there.:P

Star Wars OR is doing it, why not STO?

I think that the questions were terrible. The interviewer misspelled "Canon." That annoyed me right off the bat, then the question stating that the bridge crew coming together in the movie was "organic" rumpled my feathers also. I thought that was the most rediculous thing about the movie.
In my opinion all the questions were just to appease new fans. Props to Craig for being patient with all the same questions over and over again though!
Also, thanks to the OP for the link!

I agree that the interview was pretty bland, but it's just the way that the gaming press and PR machine work. The point was just to keep STO on the TenTonHammer homepage for another week, and to tie it in with the buzz from the film. They wouldn't choose Memorial Day for a big roll-out.
It's clear that Cryptic is running out of things to say without getting into major game systems or content revelations, and I think that those will come soon enough. We're getting close to the point where they need to start beta testing, and have to have resolved a lot of those major questions that they aren't yet talking about.

If you want a free game, I suggest going and looking at the plethora of free MMOs on the net and see how fun they are. Realistically, if you want the game to be funa nd interesting, then there will undoubtedly be a fee.

I thought they mentioned this before. At that time, it was sort of explained that you pick your bridge crew in the 'creator', but that you will encounter other NPCs that might 'join' your bridge crew stable as you progress through out the game. At least that is how I read it.

That was essentially the only useful piece of information -- that we haven't heard already -- in the entire article.
I was turned off by this line at the beginning: In a brief Q&A, Ten Ton Hammer discusses the latest Star Trek film with STO’s executive producer Craig Zinkievich, touching on some of the possible links we might see between the two
One they asked the head of a video game company some questions about a movie, and two they put the cart before the horse when the interviewers didn't bother to think of decent things to ask Zink. Duh...

I'm trying to remember which interview it was, but the gist was that when you get proper relations with a new species they may join your bridge crew or teach existing crew skills you might not have access too.

I have seen several posts asking about either time travel and alternate universe and this article answered them.
Yes! Time travel and alternate universe!
Imagine being sucked in to a red matter black hole and emerging from the other side to find the gargantuan Narada baring its teeth at you!
Then Nero on the view screen ordering you, as the captain, to hop on a shuttle and board the Narada.
dum dum daaaaaa!

I'd have to quit for a while. I personally would rather not be reminded too much of the jj-verse. Though if I could kill Nero....I might put up with it.
and yea....I'm one of those nit picky old school types who can't stand the new movie.
