I read there is not going to be a "mana" bar. But what if you are heavily damaged, about to blow up but a torpedo bay is still intact. Does that mean you can keep on firing. In Nemesis and VOY they had trouble with not enough power. How is Cryptic going to handle that? It wouldn't really be realistic if you can always keep shooting.

From what I've gathered, you will have to manage your power usage, diverting power to and fro, so it seems to me that we can run out of juice if we tax the warp core too much.

If your weapon systems are undamaged and you still have power flowing to them, I see no reason why you could not keep firing.

They said we'd be rerouting power in this game like on the show. I don't think we'll run out of "energy" for anything. Instead it'll probably be on cooldown timers so you can't just give one phaser shot that lasts forever. Transferring power will likely buff and nerf certain systems possibly affecting the cooldown timers.
I don't think we'll have a mana bar-like thing. At most maybe Torpedoes would run out and you'd have to replicate more slowly or something. Your shields will go up and down in strength with likely abilities to enhance them somehow.
No mana bar... probably.
I don't think we'll run out of power ever. Unless you're damaged and can't get power to something.

You may have system loss when you get damaged where systems go off line temporarily. This is definitely in line with the trek feel as it happens ALL the time. It's possible that Cryptic would deem this something that isn't fun though. I sure think it would be fun. Almost no game genre takes advantage of battle damage and system loss, it would be awesome for ST to include it.
But if a torpedo bay is still operational, why not be able to fire? I you just may not be able to move, have shields or those types of things if you really are badly damaged.

Hopefully it'll be a compromise between realism and fun, i.e. being stranded a while, having only bare basics etc. but not having to wait hours on end. Just like the whole "exploration" aspect of the game - sure, it'd be great to spend a while wandering the interior whilst at warp going from A to B, or maybe watching it from the viewscreen or outside the ship, but admittedly some poeple don't wanna experience this in real-time. I'm sure Cryptic will do a bang-up job!

I agree for the most part. The only possible exception might be that if you have one torpedo bay loaded and ready ... IF your ship is really crippled you may be able to launch that one torpedo .. your ship may OR may NOT be able to reload. In short .. if you are that badly damaged you might seriously look at ALL options including retreating long enough to affect repairs.
This is something that Cryptic has not made clear yet. I do hope that we are allowed to keep "spare parts" on board to be used as needed and having our NPC crew affect repairs even while in combat. If a players ship is damaged .. why not be able to fix some of it. at any rate .. sorry .. that really is another thead.

Maybe it'll all be random? Sometimes you'll gain systems back one at a time, others will come later, sometimes in different orders, sometimes nothing for a while then all systems return at once. Spontaneous perhaps, or down to player skill; I'm sure Cryptic mentioned that NPC skills and how you train your crewmen will determine these sort of things etc. I'd find it kinda thrilling to send a distress call and finding that help is on the way, but only just a few seconds ahead of trouble.

I dislike randomness. All you need is the ability to aim for certain systems on other ships. Sure, some shots will be off and there will be a degree of random but lets keep it to a minimum.

Agreed .. being able to control ships systems (as much as possible) .. is a good thing.

This is simple enough, just make the out of combat regen rates really high (but vary a bit depending on crew)...
Not too high though. It would be nice if instead of killing someone, disabling warp engines and flying off might be the more time efficient tactic. That way not all battles would be about death.

yep, my thoughts exactly.

I can see this happening if there are power fluxuations in the power grid, but you should have the ability to re-route power if possible

^ True that. Perhaps once in a while some random fix would spring outta no where. But yeah of course, control = much better. Else it's just like driving with closed eyes - sometimes you get lucky, but mostly ends in tears, destruction and that ain't a whole lotta fun! Maybe there'll be, say, a 1 in 100 chance of random failure when you're amateur level / whatever, 1 in 200 when novive and 1 in 1000 when you're ace? Who knows. Just idle speculation I guess.
