Release Date faq

I know there are no official release dates out there andthere is way too much speculation. I hope this thread can offer the few facts fans of STO can find.

I recently was surfing NEWEGG.COM and found a reservation order for STO. The release date they posted was January 1st, 2010 this is by no means OFFICIAL. But, it might offer some info. From what I have seen as an impatient video game buyer is that (aside from catastrophic changes in development) NEWEGG hits the mark within 3 months. So I expect the game to be released between October 2009 and March 2010.

I would encourage users not to post any irrelivant information on this thread but try to post information and experiences similar to what I have done.

My estimation: February 10, 2010
My hope: November 30, 2009

A FAQ that this is not a FAQ would be true, however, most stores just give a date so that they can take preorders and make money. That is all, nothing more nothing less. And anyways at this stage they wouldn't even have a release date...

It would be a prediction, because as far as we know since the beta (closed) may be happening soon/now wouldn't be far enough to completion to have a final product, we wouldn't have a Cryptic Supported Release Date.:(

Meh, I am not worried in the slightest, because the chances of making it into a closed beta are really slim unless you have alot of free time;) Anyways the open beta might be something I would participate in, however, until then just chill out, play some sins of a solar empire every now and then and sip on some oj:p

As to the OP...
New Egg is getting it from Gamestop, which is making it up based on general estimates. They do this sort of thing a few years in advance. Case in point: Starcraft 2.
Exactly 1 year ago they had it on pre-order for December. December rolled around and it was pushed back to June or July and now called "Wings of Liberty". That has yet to have a release date so it's likely to be pushed back another 6 months. Even now they have on their site
"Official pricing and release dates have not been announced by Blizzard. Price and release date listed are estimates only and subject to change"

Such a thing isn't on the STO product info, but I'm guessing it applies.
Also, note the screenshots. 2 of them are no longer in existence. (obsolete I suspect), one is Concept art from PE, and the last one is from PE's version!
Yeah... gamestop is NOT your source for game information. Just a store to buy stuff from, when it's out.

You make a good point but I am only offering what I have seen from newegg. They ship from UPS warehouses alot of the time. They DO buy directly. I have ordered my fare share of pre-releases from them and have seen there reputation when an official release date is announced. Just making that information available to the other users. I am by no means stating that I have teh secret cipher for figuring ou the real release lol

It's Phonetically similar. If it stood for 3 words then shouldnt there be periods between them (F.A.Q.)? PERIODS ARE IMPORTANT!

Well aside from the asses that are online trolls I think your observation and ability to see the vantage of other companies to predict when this game is going to hit shelves is unique. I for one welcome anyone that goes out of thier way to blow a hole in the ever secret release dates so the general public can put in requests for days off so they can enjoy thier game in the peaceful solitude of thier little desks all across america.

I predict a lot of "sick" individuals call into work the first week this game goes live.

i can tell you one thing about Blizzard, they dont really care about the havoc caused by the ppl that are waiting on a game to be released by them. they just take thier time, and if that means to push the release date a few times so be it. but they dont bring out crap games or games that needs fixes and patches the very first morning. They are very picky about that. After all that being said, gamespot cant be held responsible for fluctuations between their info and Blizz. in other words, if u care to do some research on the matter, take another company to the test, not Blizzard cus it wont be acurate at all.

My point is that Gamestop guesses. When they see a hit game, that has a good chance of not becoming vaporware, they put it up for pre-order. Preorders don't go over as well without a release date, so they make an estimate. If that estimate goes over, they add on another 6 months or so until they get an actual, finalized release date.
I mean, Crytpic isn't even in Beta yet and they have a release date? Heck, the TARGET release PERIOD is Fall '09 - March '10 and that's about as close as they have.

I hate that doomsday legend. People take some small bit of information, take it out of context, and let it run rampant in the media to get attention. But I guess saying that the Mayan calender ends a cycle on 2012 and they have a huge party to celebrate the new cycle (like we did on New Years Eve of 1999) isn't nearly as exciting as "The Mayans end their calender in 2012 so they predicted the end of the world!"
