View Full Version : Oh how the other half live...(thoughts for Cryptic please)

I'm getting the general feeling that people see the content that we have been shown has been very one sided in that the whole look of the website has a federation look, the video's have been mainly federation focused and as other members have pointed out, the Kobayashi Maru's are all federation based.
I think it's time the site was revamped with a Klingon Look and feel so we see "how the other half live"
We really need to see more Klingon content Cryptic (please) to build up the excitement for those potential players who are looking forward to fighting for honour and raiding supplies of Blood Wine.
Nothing i have seen so far has tempted me to want to be in the Klingon Alliance - simply because i have not seen enough!
Thoughts...
(I'm just trying to generate ideas by the way, i totally love what you guys are doing @ Cryptic) :)

Really, all it would take is a ship of the line. I don't know if Cryptic realizes this, but we've actually seen more Romulan ships than Klingon ships at this point...:(

It is safe to assume that they are doing most of their current work on the federation. As such, most of their updates would involve what their working on.
I'm certain that closer to beta/launch, we will see more Klingon content.

I wouldn't mind a little Klingon love. But mostly I figure sense 80% seem to be leaning Fed it doesn't matter.

Well I am not sure because all I have seen is a Raptor, Vor cha, and that Bird of Prey. I don't even know if they have the Ktinga or the d-7 and stuff like that... It is hard to like something when you never see what it is;)

I think they've actually done pretty even stuff content wise. With the exception of the screenshots, and one of the videos, all other information has been pretty balanced between the two factions. Two Federation ships, and two Klingon faction ships, on top of that, we can probably assume that all content is applicable to both sides of the line. So, anytime they do a release of information, say through a blog or what not, although the Federation people are all over it instantly and it's cast from the Federation POV, it's probably safe too assume that the same features exist for both factions. The only imbalances that I can really see are the screenshots (which i do agree could be more balanced) and the fact that the only real in game trailer was very Starfleet. Is there something else that anyone else sees that isn't?

While I'll be playing as a Fed, I still think you Klingons need some love. Just not from me, I bruise easily.
Me thinks they should start off with something simply, like having an separate skin for the website. Make it look all Klingonly

Let's just hop in our ships and go! :-)
I'm undecided who to play as so this would be a big help.

Since Star Trek is focused around the Federation, it stands to reason the website will be Federation centric.
Besides, I can't red Klingon, so a website in Klingon would be really hard to navigate. lol.

I would love to see more Klingon content, and I hope they turn a page one day and suddenly STO is all Klingon-themed for a good while, and they show us how they're portraying and fleshing out the Klingons, as well as showing us more of their ships etc.
I'm not sure how expensive it is to re-skin a website, but it would lovely for STO be Klingon-themed, with rusty brownish red metal and such around the pages, instead of LCARS.

Well...
A good designer would cost them a fair sum of money. But most forums have the option of allowing users to choose their themes.
I don't see why they couldn't...

I think it would be worth it, it would probably draw some players overs to play Klingons if not just for the cool, rustic "warrior" look... and it would show that Cryptic are supporting both sides of STO equally by giving them both their own version of the homepage.. they could give the forums a "red and grey" option instead of blue and grey too, at least. I guess we'll see :)

Federation are getting all the love in space, but klingons seem to be getting their own love with ground based content.
We haven't seen a federation complex on the ground yet...but we have 2 Klingon ones :P
I always planned to play Federation because they're Star Trek to me, the only Klingon I ever had interest in was Worf.

Good point, but I'd love to see more Klingon space-love, they must have made some advances in cloaking and weapons technologies and created some new ships/ways to blow things up! :D

Yeah, I was going to mention this.
You can choose the "hero" or "villain" skin for the Champions page, and in Champions you can only make a hero, so I would have thought a "Klingon" and "Federation" skin would have been a natural here.

I was thinking about the Klingon side of things, and came up with some speculation as to what it may be like. Klingon races are; Klingons, Orions, Gorn, and Nausicaans.
Orions are a well established civilization, having built a large criminal organization bearing their name, they would have a large fleet from which to draw ships. Orion players may find themselves drawing from the Orion inventory more so than from Klingon ships.
The Gorn are recently conquered by the Klingons. Given this, I can't see the Klingon empire allowing them to build a fleet of their own, and there wouldn't be much left of their pre-conquest fleet. At most they would only be allowed small police ships. A Gorn player may have to go through a few unique missions before being trusted with a ship of any real ability.
Nausicaans have not been covered much, according to their article on memory alpha (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Nausicaan) they tend to be pirates, and have little central government. A Nausicaan player may start in a small raider.
Given this eclectic bunch, I would expect that a player in the Klingon faction may find a much wider variety of experiences, ships, and equipment than a fed player.

you might be right about the movies/trailers, but I really don't care what the website looks like so long as it's easy enough to navigate and the content is about STO, the graphics can be whatever they like
but there will probably be made something that'll let you chose graphics later, that's verry easy to do

Hey there, Everyone!!!:)
I actually first came across this thread a couple of days ago. After reading it, I thought that the Klingons among the Forum Community could use a little love, so I decided to post a thread about the one Klingon Ship I've been working on: The Nz'Ka-Class!!!
I classified the ship as a Heavy Cruiser/Carrier, meaning that it packs a heavy punch in its own right, but also carries several fighters to overwhelm its opponent with targets. I would imagine that this bad boy would be a perfecct candidate for a Klingon Command Ship.
However, I learned from Awen via a Private Message that Cryptic's contract with CBS forbids them from accepting submissions for official content (The PM she sent me was in reply to a PM I had sent her in which I submitted another one of my designs for Cryptic's Approval), so we won't be seeing the Nz'Ka in-game.:( However, Klingon RPers can feel free to use it in the Holodeck RPs which involve Klingons. You can find the Nz'Ka on this thread (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=20498), and I hope you enjoy it. It's still a work in progress, so feel free to help create what needs to be created--just make sure to post it in the Thread I clickied, since that is the Thread I set up for discussing the Nz'Ka.
Thank you for a good thread so far, and Enjoy the Nz'Ka!!!:D;)

I wonder if they can at least tell us they'll be putting in some appropriately Klingon music. Something rousing and manly, the kind of music that makes you want to get some friends together and kill something.

I concur.I would love to see some more Klingon oriented content. A new Klingon trailer as well as some screenies would be great to see...
Until that time, I'm still happy with the information and sneak peaks we've been given up to this point.
