Will it ever be possible for a Romulan to become a part of Starfleet, much like Worf is, and other nonmember races? Without a homeworld and a brewing civil war it may be the right time for enlightened Romulans to join us. There are still 21 years until the game launches.
I am thinking that perhaps I might adjust my character, perhaps my father Jackson Archer marries a Romulan scientist that defected to the Federation, making my character half Romulan and half Human. That would make for some good RP opportunity.

Aye, with the character generator, anything's possible, it's simply up to you to work in a back-story.
well, i think the character creation gives you alot of freedom to bring in a character as you wish to, but, i would be surprised to see the npc's reacting in a way.

There will be the physical attributes of a Romulan in the character creator. You can make a character look like a Romulan and then give the character skills that you think befit the Romulan race/this Romulan. In game, the character will probably have some sort of "custom race" tag as opposed to "Romulan".
I think of this as just saying that the character isn't aligned with the Romulans, it is aligned with the Federation but just doesn't come from a member race.

I'd hope they would allow you to name your race instead of being "custom race".
More to the RP though, rejected by pure Romulans and distrusted by Humans/Vulcans and most federation races, hated by Klingons. Loyalty only to and from his crew.

I suppose if the Cardassians can put away their war like tendencies and embrace peace and a new begining for their species, then anything is possible. It won't be easy though, Romulans have always been supicious of everyone and have generally perfered to focus on their own affairs. To join the Federation would be throwing out decades of isolationism and distrust of others, change like that won't happen over night.

Like I said, i'm not exactly sure how the naming of the race would be. I just think it will be something like "custom race" because what's to prevent someone from making a 'Romulan' that looks like a wookie? The 'Custom race' titel is probably a little immersion breaking, i admit. Maybe it should be:
"Race: not of Federation member race" or
"Race: unaligned" "Faction: Federation"
Then in your player bio you could talk about the back story/race.

I doubt we'll ever see the Romulans as a whole go to the federation, but I think a few Romulans going over to the Federation makes sense. I understand it's not the typical Romulan way, but these aren't normal Romulan times... And, there are always exceptions.

Ideally, my character's mother was never loyal to the federation, she was in love with my character's father, and they both where loyal to scientific truth. My character would be both Human and Romulan, so he would be a citizen of the federation, just not trusted, but not trusted on an informal basis.
He became a Starfleet Captain by being one of the most dedicated young canidates to Starfleet Academy, with few friends and a need to prove himself, he earns a position aboard a galaxy class starship. After being promoted to a position in security he saves the enitre ship during a battle with three Klingons. During the battle the ship managed to destroy all three Klingon vessals, but the Klingon ship rammed the Federation vessal. While it had not the speed or power to destroy, it did manage to hit a vunerable area, a power conduit broke and created an arc to flow phaser power back into the engines. With the controls fused the phaser was locked on, and the ship's core would soon blow. My character entered the jeffries tube, heated beyond physical toleration limits and seperated the power system, before losing conciousness. After being removed by medical personel, and comming near death he is promoted to first officer with the promotion of his ship's first officer to another duty. Nine months later, a Sabre class starship is recovered after a battle with an unknown race. While the sabre class vessal, The USS Mustang, is undamaged the vessals crew was dead. The unknown race then attacked the galaxy class starship, By playing possum on the Mustang, my charcter got the opening needed and took the unknown attackers out. By saving the crew a second time, my character was promoted to Captain of the USS Mustang, while many wondered why he was not put into a more prominet position. After serving admirable in the Captain's chair, some enlightened admirals including Admiral Janeway helped to promoted my character to Captain of a new NX-91001.
