I saw this thread a few weeks back but it seems to of died since then. I can't find it so I'm making it again. I'm interested in seeing whatver you guys are going to do on the first day.
I'm going to try and trick out my ship and then fly as far as I can in one direction.

log on straight away and run like hell to get out of the hub area before I get swallowed up by lag.

Knowing me, probably spend too much time in the character creator getting my captain and starship just right. Then staying up late playing/exploring and aggravating my wife by repeatedly saying, "Cool, take a look at this!" :D

That is something else I would want to do.

I have heard the reports of a single server. I plan on multiple until I actually see a singular server.

2nd star to the right and straight on till morning?
Something to that effect, yes.
I hope, given that Cryptic want us to explore, there will be a small region of 'explored' space, surrounded by plenty of wild, unexplored places to visit.
But, we shall see, shan't we?

If a character generator is released before launch, I wont need to spend too much time creating my character, and I can get right into exploring the galaxy and mining resources :D So exciting.

after setting up my accound, making my crew, and setting up my starter ship, i would probably start looking for the city on the edge of forever, maybe beam down to earth and look around at how things have changed.maybe disneyland or sea world are still around.

Log on and set a course for Deep Space 9 :D once there I'll just probably die from lag from everyone else doing the same thing :p

I'll log in. Spend ages and ages working on myself and the crew so they are perfect. I don't want mingers on my bridge thank you very much. My ship will also be decent.
Then hours later when I've deleted them 50 times and started over I'll get a course for my fave planets and see if they exist in the game. Then back to spacedock because I love it and then back off to explore.
I would also like to find other Roleplayers and see where they all will be hanging out at and join them.
I'm more of an RPer than a PVPer. Hopefully PVP will be decent in STO and I can join in.
P.S
Will buy and brand spanking new gaming PC before the launch so my PC can handle the game with it's graphics at their best. Will also get a newer gaming laptop so I can play as I wander aimlessly.

on my first day i will probably pick a character straight away from the stock, i will be to excited to play the game to spend too much time customising a character, then once i am in the game i will attempt to find a new planet to name it after myself!!

Here's the problem I forsee.
In MMO's you have areas with certain level mobs in it which you complete quests in to gain higher levels, and therefore, more power. You can't go from the starting area too far or you won't be able to take anything on.
So, since this game is about exploration, how far can one go before going "too far"? Is that even going to be a problem? Can you go anywhere right off the bat? This is gonna making leveling/questing kind of difficult.
It's unclear as of now I guess.
However, I plan on doing some exploration/battling and finding a good solid fleet to join.

A tactical advance in the opposite direction is always a good option.

My first day will be spent installing the game and then waiting for the servers to come back up every couple of hours or so. That is if I even get past the queue.

1. Be ill, stay at home.
2. Spend hours creating the perfect crew and naming my ship.
3. Choose a random direction and fly off that way.
4. Spam my friends with endless 'Buy this game now' messages.

step 1: make my captain. then,do the tutorial..I'm guessing that making the crew will be part of the tutorial. then, spend a little time getting a feel for the motion of the ship, getting my controls/commands set up how I want, getting how STO ships fly..
once I've done that, and know how to lock, fire, shift systems around(diverting power to this and that)..how to interact with my crew, how they work, how if affects flight ops, then, I will form a pick-up groupvp fleet, head to the neutral zone, and kill every opposite faction player I see, with malice aforethought, and with extreme prejudice :)..then, a mission or 2, then exploration..

Most likely see what we have, what we can do, and from there, plan on making movies and such for Star Trek Online :D Something of an episode thing from teh perspective of events going on around.

Most likely twiddling my thumbs cuz of all the people signign on and crashing the server repeatedly.
So I will have to return to these forums and read all the *****ing about the game and how it sucks. People need to relax and look at the big picture. All will be fine. :)
I wanna be a tactican. I probably won't take long making characters or on cosmetics, but I'll think long and hard about combat equipment. Then I'll start trying to learn the ins and outs of combat.
I'll probably spend 90% of my time in this game in combat.

I am going Federation. So I hope I can spend some time exploring Starfleet academy. After that I would like to play with the starship customizer thingy I have heard so much about. After that its pretty much up in the air, maybe drinks on Risa? ;)

I will spend a LOT of time making my ship, my species, and my crew, (which, I am unimformed, can you make your crew part of your race???) and I will actually spend a lot of time in StarFleet Academy... I wonder if you can run the Kobyashi Maru like in the movie, and how in depth Star Fleet will be. OOO OOO NEW IDEA! What.... if your roomate in Starleet is your First Officer??? (of course this wouldn't work for people of different genders, if you don't know why, get off the forums and go talk to mommy and daddy)

Im gonna probably do what jonathen archer does on Star Trek Enterprise and explore planets, stars, and even new galaxys. And also out fit my ship with scientific things and boost my shields so i can enter many areas where alot of ships wouldnt be able to. Do to weaker shields like stars for instance.

I like that aspect, to be honest. I don't want to be restrained to a small area, but... I want to go and get my butt kicked by space baddies sometime so I can go back when I have upgraded to a much better ship. It's motivation to rank up and get better upgrades in my opinion, and adds that "danger" aspect to exploring unknown space.

I agree. You should be able to explore freely. However, spreading out "low level" quests in every sector is time consuming for both parties. Leveling and questing should be a tiered system, isolated to a few starter areas that then branch out.
