will there be racial advantages and /or alliance advantages...

1)i read somewhere that there will be the federation and the coalition of various races labled genericly klingon, but what are the second group going to be called?

2)are there going to be any other groups of alliances?
if i create a race, would it be possible to not fall into these categories and create my own bonus set?

" * Federation:
o Human
o Vulcan
o Andorian
o Not sure what else will be 'officially a Core Race'.
* Klingon
o Klingons
o Gorn
o Orion
o Naussican
"this is from another post
3)-- so the humans could have like a diplomacy increase or targeting/range or accuracy bonus
while the Klingon could have a hull strength/ cloaking or out-right massive damage.

4)basically, will there be the standard "assassin type races, and tank races (Klingon), and buffer races..

From what i understand, any race you create would still be just your faction. the game wont think of you as a new race but as federation of klingon. As of bonuses for what faction you play, I dont know. I dont think there is any info on that yet. but i could be wrong.

So I could make something very near human and play on the Klingon side? Sweeeeet. I never thought of that.

1) Pretty sure the races will just falls under the Klingons, and the players will be members of the Klingon Defense Force.

2) That was from Loekii, and he's pretty correct, those are the major races. There are pretty much limitless custom races that you can create with the character creator though. Here's the official vid:
http://www.startrekonline.com/videos

3) It is really unclear the way this will actually work, but you can be sure that the Factions will play a bit differently. But remember, each faction can have custom races so teh differences will probably be seen more in the ships you can get than the skills/abilities of the captain/crew.

4) Engineer/Tacticall/Science sounds a lot like Tank/DPS/CC or Heal, but the devs have said that there is a lot of variability within the classes. You have your whole bridge crew that you can customize the way you want, and the game is skill based, not lvl based. Basically, I see the class you pick being more like a specialization. You'll have an advantage in certain areas, but won't be limited.

There has also been mention of subclasses which would create even more variability if they decide to go that route.

The way I understand it is that we might pick a core race...say Andorian, and get andorian buffs. Then edit him to look any way we want (klingon perhaps?). I hope i'm wrong.

In a FAQ I saw somewhere one of the devs stated (correct me if I am wrong) that you either pick from of the core races or you can make a custom race and pick out your attributes/qualities.
