I know that it has already been stated that professions in Tactical, Engineering, Science and Medical will be ones to choose from, but what about counselors?
Would they fall under the Medical profession as a branch off?
If so, I think it would add a benifit to a ship to have conselors on them, in that it might give you a boost in diplomatic relations when encountering other species... perhaps the more you have, the higher your diplomacy.
Any thoughts on this? =P

They haven't really mentioned a "crew morale" aspect, but if that comes into play for whatever reason I could definitely see that helping. It just seems kind of like an off shoot thing, though, so I wouldn't expect much.

Ezri Dax wore a blue uniform as a counselor, so I don't see why it wouldn't be included under the Science/Medical profession.
A counselor could be useful to give "crew morale" buffs, making shore leave or downtime less necessary and perhaps reducing cooldown times for certain abilities. They could also aid a captain in diplomacy or first contact situations by reading body language and detecting lies. I suppose that the counselor position would only be available on larger ships though--Zinc mentioned that different ships would have different bridge crew stations, and only large ships or installations would have enough people aboard or space on the bridge to warrant a counselor.

I'm not sure there has been an official statement of when "classes" there will be
we've heard that there will be Engineering, Science and Medical but not what there won't be
and I verry much doubt those we have had confirmed will be all we get the choose from

I'm actually pretty sure they have mentioned crew morale. I'll see if I can find the link.
But yeah, I would find it odd if they didn't have a ships counselor in some capacity. At times, the conselor served a very prominent role.
/me ponders what the Klingon equivalent would be.
Maybe just have one of those real size cardboard cut-outs of Jean Luke in the back. We could draw fake mustaches when upset!!! :p That would make me feel better anyway...
EDIT: And there has been mention of subclasses beyond the tactical, engineering, and science. Maybe counselor would be worked in there.

Hmmm my thoughts are, I hope there are a number of optional officers we can choose from:
Diplomatic Officer
Chief Medical
Chief Engineer
Communications
Tactial
Security
Ops
Science
Helm
XO
It really should depend, cuz Small ships like the Nova and Defiant usually put XOs at a station, and don't have optional officers like Counsers, and Tactical and Security are one, as are science and ops.
Where as large ships have seperate tactical and security officers, science and ops officers, have XOs not at a station, and can afford officers like Diplomatic and Counselors

I've always wanted to ask someone, "And how does that make you feel." Back on topic- yeah, that sounds like a pretty decent idea.

Judging from the posts written by forum members, I think most people on these boards will need at least two counselors.. as for the game itself...

The type of ship you have will determine what bridge officers you can have at any given time. For example, a small ship might only allow for the captain, helm, ops, and tactical stations on the bridge crew. A larger ship could allow for 2 additional science station officers, a counselor, first officer that ISN'T also at Ops, maybe another tactical officer even, an engineering station, etc. It will all be determined by the type and size of ship you have.
