I've been wodnering just what kind of things we are going to be expecting in this area when we play through the game?
Is it going to be like most MMOs collecting loot off of all our kills in the form of salvage? or mission based things to acquire resources and the availability of technology?
Do we "roll" on a t5 phaser, disrupter or cloaking device, (I hope they dont stack up in Teirs like that.)
Or do we collect resources as we save a planet and convert planets to our cause and depending on what missions we've completed we go to star bases and things to have different things available to us?
I've seen threads halfway about this but nothing direct.

Aye, this is a question I'd like answered.
By now I'd assume that the devs would've figured out what to do about this simple concept.
Looting bodies planetside and using transporters to salvage ships in space would seem the most obvious if loot is in fact implemented within the game, and I don't see why not, after all the basic idea of always having the potential upgrade vastly increases the playability of MMOs. At least early in the game.

looting as slavging will mostlikely only yeld ex and some minior gear to not give the hevy avantage to the PvP ers
they are trying to encourage fleet formation so if you are part of a fleet that has at least 20-30 actave members you are good and have accesses to the betters stuff, that being said i hope it blances that you only have more not betters and that the little guy stantd the chance of finding betters stuff
here is a hint go to the distant corner of the map and get tech rare things and knowlage
bring that back home to you fleet or trad it for somthing of value and that is how you get the best gear
i sopose you can also get it by finding it but its not like it is a esay as kill the bigest boses wash rinse repeat

Craig had a quote in a recent article "Star Fleet captains don't loot corpses". He went on to say there would be quest rewards and things of that nature.
The rest is really unclear, they simply haven't talked much about this. The Olso class write up in the "ships of the line" talked about its modular structure, so it sounds like we'll be collecting a lot and mixing and matching a lot of new tech and things.
Personally, i'd like to see a robust crafting system. I'd like missions to give you more resources and bluepritns, then you have to craft them yourselves or even have crew members think of new blueprints on the fly. Some people may really dislike this system though. :)

You'd think that there has to be some sort of loot otherwise there’s little incentive to play in PvP.

I like that idea, mission based things to get resources for crafting and purchasing at stations and shipyards, unlock as you rescue worlds and bring worlds into your side. Yeah, I dont see Captain Picard destroying a Klingon ship and then opening up a major salvage operation. Voyager picks through borg refuse here and there, but they are stranded half way across the galaxy and need any resources they can get.
I dont see how pvp and loot correlate closely, its not like I blow up your ship and then pick through your ships systems. I do however see there being missions or unlockable parts (to buy/trade for at some shipyards) relating to doing well in pvp. I also see there being some pvp missions where you get resources or whatever because you successfully took the system or won the battle. Ongoing mission- destroy a dozen federation/klingon ships and in doing so you will have proven yourself capable and helped our cause, you get access to _________, or it could be a system where its honor(pvp in wowstyle), only you unlock it with honor and then purchase it with whatever they consider the resource to be.(Dilithium?)

Most of the things that you acquire will be through mission based stuff.
As to my knowledge so far the Dev's have said that you will not be able to salvage stuff off ofa defeated enemy vessel or anything else like that in PVP.

Perhaps in PVE?
Still its true what they say, Federation officers don't loor corpses

I'd imagine it'd be more "thematic" to acquire various materials and research and have new stuff built somewhere. I'd also imagine you could acquire some exotic stuff off wreckage, but I'd be surprised if that was the norm.

Well they did hint that you might come across wrackage with technology, which you could benefit from.
As for looting, yea I think it's best they left it out. I mean Federation Uniforms don't have pockets! And I don't see them carrying Latinum with them into battle. :p
