Ok, I know that it is taken some time and that it is perpetuals fault, but at the same time, it's getting rather annoying running about tinterweb looking for a release date. I mean in a way i'm glad they haven't given us one because that means no expectation no disapointments, but come on to hell. It's about time that we get some info on it's release date! I mean we've waiting this long..... Argh, I understand this kind of MMO takes alot of work, but it's as if it is once again melting away. Maybe with the movie just out there things will take a step up, but i'm slowly but surely getting ot the point where i can't even be arsed waiting anymore nevermind bothering playing it.
The only thing that is really keeping me going is the fact that I've played city and heroes from cyrpitc in the past and they never let us down, I just hope they won't with this project as it is a biggy.
I think this thread is more about my disapointment with prepetual, but i don't particularly wana be hitting 25 before i get a shot at it ;) (Currently 21 :P)
Any thoughts?

The interviews are great to read. They state that the developing company is using an open play server on which all employees are playing. Some might call this an unofficial Alpha-phase of testing! (Although I bet Cryptic will insist that it's not quite there yet. :))
This means that we -might- be able to expect a Beta by the end of this year, or early next year.
So keep hope! Interest and revenues sparked by the new movie(s) -- let alone the interest from old-time fans like myself who have been waiting for something like this for decades -- ensure that Star Trek Online will thrive when it hits the shelves. :)
EDIT: or the actual release by end of this year or beginning of next year, considering the rumours going around and the projected 'goal' by Cryptic

They will announce a closed beta sign up before the have a release date. Cryptic is pretty good about knowing that things are subject to change. They will have used about 8 months of beta in CO and just released the July 14th release date a few weeks ago.
Expect the same from STO. There will be gradual "official news" with the release date being one of the last things. patience...

This game will be Released when it is realesed . Anyway SBOslayer are you from the same SBO that used to be in SFC3 as i used to play that under the VSF banner

Making a game based on a such a vast and complex universe adds a lot of responsability on Cryptic's shoulders. They should take as much time as needed to complete this game *and* to make it live up to the expectations of Star Trek.
I'd say that by giving us a release date they would add needless pressure on themselves for now. I wish all the best for this game's future, it looks damn promising

Cryptic is doing something noble and its definitely going to take some time, i say another 2-3 months hopefully, less would be better, my guess is they have all the basic stuff up but they need to add the finishing touches and fine details. for that they need dedicated beta testers, its time we started thinking about ways to help them out as they are clearly listening to us. give them advice on aspects of the game, ask for a beta key and help them test everything, but cryptic, and this is for you, you need to give us regular updates and tell us how its going, if theres something specific ask us instead of having us ask you. this game should have been made long before now as it has huge potential. every one of us on this site wants it out and cryptic, to a reasonable extent we are willing to do what we can to help.

I want nothing more than to play. I'm losing hope.
I share the frustration of the OP. I have been following this for a couple of years and the lack of information available makes me doubt it will ever happen, or that if it does that it is years away.
It would be really nice to get a general idea of how long we are talking about. Nobody expects a hard date and I understand that they aren't ready to give a hard timeline but they could give a loose one. Something like this:
Beta - 6-9 months
Release - 1 1/2 to 2 years
These could float and be updated until more concrete dates are available. As of now I have no idea if we are talking about 1 or 10 years until release.
just do some research in the forums with the terms release and date.
you might come across a few sentences about it... :rolleyes:

Everyone shares the pain of not knowing when the game is going to be released but every post thats made whining and crying that we dont know when the games coming is just more waste.
The developers are working on a game at such a scale its remarkable there getting the progress they are atm.
If people push to rush this you will only be disopointed when you realise what could of been a potentialy badass MMOG faded in the dust down to impatience.
PS. am i the only one who can see the every other day updates/articles on the homepage? lol
The way i see it mate those are "technicaly" your updates.

Meh ok lol, well thankies for those who responded postivily it gives me a better appreciation. Sorry i don't have the time to check the forums every day and search all day long... u know that's what happens when u've got exams! In any case. I did say that i understand this game is a huge under taking and I get that cryptic has done it's best as they haven't in reality had the project that long. It's just frustrating and I guess i'm really excited about it, which is why i asked and went on a bit of a rager :P I was going to say i do comend Cryptic and as previously stated i'm really glad their doing it considering that COH was such a blast :D, but I'm not gona sit with the mad drama coming from some of you. I understand that probly people put these posts up.... but, sorry sunshines not all of us have the time to religiously follow it. It's called having a life! In any case, I look forward to the game and from what i've seen it wil live up to the hipe. As before thankies again for those who repsonded positvily and gave a bit of info, gives a better grasp and understanding of the actual question asked in the first place :)

"Closed beta may be closer than you think." Those are Cryptic's exact words. The closing date for the envoy system is the 22nd of may. Why the 22nd of may? why not the 1st of june to make it easier for themselves? What is happening on the 22nd of may???

NOBODY wants them to RUSH for goodness sake but to say they have no idea is an effing lie plain and simple. You can't POSSIBLY tell me that their corporate partners don't already have a decent idea of when it will be released and giving the fans just a tiny bit of information about it would be better than the slap in the face that we get instead.
Don't like my opinion? I don't really give a rats, I am entitled to it just the same. Maybe you love being in complete darkness and could care less if the release date is 6 months or 6 years but you are in the minority.

Game sites like that put up release dates into their computers that in no way tells the release dates from so far away. They only do it so it is in their system and they can start selling pre-orders.

I concur! I must also add this, I do computer engineering and from my knowledge there is always a base line release date, they have to measure cost, time spent, the work needed and how long that work will take. It's what we call deadlines dearest sithmase, There is always a basic idea. I actually do sorta appreciate the fact that they haven't given a relase date in order to have no disapointment, but it would be nice for a clearer pictures on the possibilty. It's been stated something is happen on 22nd may, maybe that will contain some kind of answer :) I believe Crypitc will do an awesome job if COH is any indication :)
