So they want to, but you know their hasn't been a crossplatformer on PS3 yet. XBox360 has a couple

DCUO is having difficulty with it...

We'll see.

its far easier to make a game that works both on the 360 and PC sony uses different "stuff" than these two platforms making cross platforming an expensive pain in the ass

id rather it was pc only as making it console can place limitations on it that id rather not have., main problem is on console they would have to force you too use a keyboard and mouse,

well the PS3 and Xbox360 both use Power PC like cores. they do instructions In order. regular PC's do instructions out of order (something like that)

the fact that the Xbox360 is easer to program for is true becaus it auctally has like 2 full CPU's while the PS3 has 1 cpu with like 7 SPE's that can all do something so in turn it would be harder to program for. but i didnt think that it would stop them......

if this really comes out on the 360 it will be true that the 360 gets all the good games.....

it will be a sad day.....

As the 360 is made by Microsoft it will be so much easier, but imho i dont think it would work too well on any console.

i beleive that there would be an effort to bring sto to ps3 but also remember that the ps3 can run linux so it maybe possible to run sto through linux on your ps3 if the game specs allow

i wish it were that easy.

Linux on the PS3 has pretty mutch no drivers and it dose not give controll of the graphics card to linux itself. the only way it would run is if it had PS1/Nintendo 64 graphics...

I'm a 360 gamer but I do feel for PS3 owners, Microsofts' deep pockets enable them to get exclusivity and Sony lately don't seem able to match them. It's sort of lke the situation with the PS2 and original Xbox only reversed. I think the main reason though is the fact that Sony priced themselves out of the market when they released the PS3 the same way Microsoft did with the original Xbox. The PS2 was only £200 when Microsoft released the Xbox and they were charging around £400. Lower prices are always going to boost sales, look at the Wii... £175 and it's become the highest selling thing ever. £500 is a lot to ask for and because of this the PS3 hasn't gained the popularity the the PS2 did

Maybe a price cut could amend this but Sony have said that it's prices are staying put so... Who knows? Maybe it will become a 3-way game but more likely than not it's just going to be a Microsoft exclusive.

Stay on the 360 don't cater to the PS3 slackers! :P

Hey I am a 360 person myself, but really if you put it on other systems that is more people for me to play with, so carry on...

MTV Multiplayer: Have you decided which consoles yet?

Zinkievich: It could be either [Xbox 360 or PS3], or both. [smiles]

Zinkievich: Both of the first parties, both Microsoft and Sony

i think its a pretty good bet they'll be out on 360 and ps3, whether its a server for each or we all get bundled together is still an open debate but personally i reckon it will be out on both platforms which is great news

What are you people talking about? STO isnt coming out for consoles PERIOD. They were going to release it on the 360 but that got put on hold indefinitely for the time being.

Its not coming out for consoles. Im not against the idea by any means but facts are facts. The devs have made a 360 version but it encountered problems with Microsoft on the deal. So its not coming out for 360.

OP, the good news is its not going to come out on the 360. The bad news is its not coming out for the PS3 either.

This is old news. The console releases have been scrapped. The fact that they were scrapped IS old news.

I remember seeing or reading an interview about this somewhere a while back. The dev they were interviewing said that it wasn't an issue of programming it to run on the consoles, it was the negotiation of the rights to USE the consoles. In other words, its the backroom politics and money. Most likely the console people wanting too many concessions to let them put it on their consoles.

Link it or it didn't happen.

I've never seen anything saying that the console version as scrapped; oh, I know that Cryptic is having problems with the business end stuff, but there has been nothing to suggest that those problems can't be worked out.

There may still be console versions of STO; we just don't know one way or the other.

Ever time I see an MMO comeing out for PC an console(S) I just think it will be out on PC. I have seen it fall throw more times in the past to know that odds are it will be PC only. An even if they did have it on console(S) with out in game voice chat it would be hard to get feed back on what is happening if you need help.

Now I would not mind having it on console(S) more players more people to talk to right? but if a fight having them drop the controller to type something could so up the fight or have that player get killed.

You're right in the fact that it was never announced that it was scrapped.

However at an early point it was advertised that in fact the game was definitely going to come out on 360. Champions and STO both. It was even under the FAQ here on this site that the game was being released for consoles. Then one day that tidbit disappeared from the FAQ. It was no longer there. It was just for the PC.
The game has been designed to play on consoles. It works. Its running on them. Its playable.

But its a business problem. Those problems being worked out? Well originally there WASNT a problem. Everything seemed peachy. Then apparently there was. You expect that it could change back again? Cryptic is giving the impression that its Microsoft thats not budging. Not them. They claim they are ready.

So sure, if Microsoft lets up, maybe. But unlikely. Champions has released, and still absolutely NO news. STO is upcoming, and nothing. MMO console releases are not common. I dont really see it happening here.

I would like as many people to be able to play this as possible. I'd like STO to be as successful as possible. Console releases could easily boost sales. I just dont think we'll be seeing it. Not any time soon if ever.

Its not that they announced the games were NEVER coming to consoles. Its that they are no longer announcing that they are. Or might be later. Or that there is even a possibility. Or that they are working things out. There was an announcement that it was coming for consoles and thats been retracted.

I agree that a console version does not look as likely as it did once upon a time; but no news is not necessarily bad news.

Just look at bridges; a couple of weeks ago, if someone had asked me if there was any chance of them being in at launch, I would have said:

'This close to launch? We would have heard something about it by now don't ya think?'.

I would have made an assumption, and been dead wrong about it. I'm not taking anything for granted at this point. :o

There may, or may not, be a console release; until we get more info (however long that may take) that is all that can be said for certain.
