We already have a micro transaction thread I know. I'm just creating this "poll" for a clearer picture of the communities thoughts. Just answer the poll questions please to keep things clear, for comments on micro transactions please pop on over to the original thread here:

http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=19190

Questions is: Do you wish to see micro transactions or any other form of RMT (outside of a monthly subscription fee that is) in STO?

a) Yes - for non cosmetic upgrade items or buffs items incl elite items.

b) Yes - for a very few "fluff" items such as special nacelles or uniform styles e.t.cc that add nothing to combat or gameplay.

c) Yes - for server transfers, gender changes or name changes only (like WoW)

d) Yes - but only if the game is fee free (as in no monthly subscription).

e) No - no micro transactions or other RMT at all (other then monthly subscription).

f) Don't care either way as I wouldn't participate in them regardless.

g) Just plain don't care.

My vote : e) No

"Wish to see" and "wouldn't care about" would change these answers drastically for people. :x

To clarify, I wouldn't care if they had cosmetic microtransactions, but I wouldn't buy any for myself. What would that answer fall under?

E.

No way, If I have to spend 50 Euros or something to buy the game in stores, And then another 20 Euros or so a month to play. I damn well expect to be able to use this game at it's full capability. I expect to be able to use ALL items and customize ships and clothing and whatnot with ALL the available customizations.

However I wouldn't mind if these microtransactions only included special items with no usage whatsoever. Like a painting you can hang on the wall, Or one of those gold ship models for in your ready-room (When and If interiors become available)

But only things that have no use whatsoever.

I'm not going to pay 25 cents or whatever to give my character certain facial features or that extra finish to her/his costume. And I sure don't like to pay more just for getting "those cool looking warp nacelles" even though I really would like to have them.

Agreed ! This makes the most sense. Anything else has no real purpose other than to stoke the fires of greed !

E and C would satisfy me, seeing that most games already allow name changes and i bet it will be on one server. so....

E, with only a touch of C please.

Agreed, I could maybe live with b) depending on how worthless those items really were and how many options they gave us without paying, but i'd have to see.

Anything else would be a game breaker with my friends and I.

EDIT: I don't think this was an option, but some have mentioned paying for more character slots. I think this is only acceptable if they give us enough to begin with.

6 char slots would make a lot of sense. That way you could try out each class on each faction.

The minimum would be 4. Less than 4 would be silly. We should at least be able to try the 3 classes of our chosen faction and then have one more slot to experience the other faction's content.

E) Absolutely not. At all. NO micro transactions. This is an MMO. Not a the carnival in the mall parking lot.

C. I hate microtransactions. Not everyone can pay for them, and it can give a player a much larger advantage over others.

E) Please Cryptic, just play it safe on this one.

I guess it kind of depends on what they would offer with B and C. I'd have to take those on a case by case. It's a slippery slope you tread when you allow real money to enter into the game, even for cosmetic reasons. I'm pretty uneasy about the whole thing. This is probably the one issue that, by itself, could prevent me from playing the game.

E - Micro-transactions are like paying for something twice

Lets see, if you are paying 15 US dollars a month, that's 180 US dollars a year. How much more money do they need than that? You could buy subscriptions to 6 very nice magazines for that! And they want more?!? If they have to make the game in server shards that's their problem not mine. So they should cover the cost of sever transfer. If in game money moving from server to server is a problem, put a limit on the amount of money you can take with you.

E - My first choice

if there must be then..

C

I would really **REALLY** not like any kind of charge that has any effect on gameplay options at all. Even if it's only a cosmetic change.

We will be spending our money on the initial purchase of the game, then a subscription fee. I *hate* when MMO's add pretty neat stuff, even if it doesn't seriously change gameplay, and charge 5 or 10 dollars for them.

I played CoH/CoV and I saw a friend running around with a jump pack. It didn't last long, wasn't a game unbalancing object, wasn't a game-altering toy, but it looked cool and was usefull. You had to buy a small package to get it, was like $9.99 or something. It just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I understand a cost for server movements, or extra character slots, but I just have a real issue with actual in-game items that can only be obtained by purchasing them.

E.

Too many games are starting to cater to the greed of RMTs to give people advantages, definitely a deal breaker for me if it goes beyond C.

E) is the best obviously, but could live with C: as well. Although if there is monthly fee paying extra irks me.
