i been thinking how these might work, will there be a button to send out shuttle craft during battles like on starfleet command, or will we be able to pilot them around and land on a planet ourselves fly them around the planet etc, or will they just be eye candy?and if we can fly them around, will we be able to explore some of the larger ones? id like to hear your thoughts on this.

The only thing we know about shuttles is that we won't be able to fly them ourselves.

Though there is speculation they might have a Star Fleet Command type function based on the trailer where you can see one or two.

to bad, while i seemed to barely survive on shattered universe(mirror mirror game where you pilot fighter craft onbord sulu's ship after it was transported to the dark universe) i always seemed to lose my shuttles on star fleet command.>.<

Maybe they will act as 'pets', you could use them in sync with your own ship for extra firepower, or to take some of the damage.

i know for one the there is a scanner shuttle pod that you can pilot from the shuttle or your ships bridge

I'm hoping STO utilizes them well, as they are part of ship's arsenal.

I like the idea of a shuttle pet, one of the things I loved about eve (one of the few things, tbh) was the drone system. Perhaps they could bring in a new class of ship that is able to carry multiple delta flyers or even defiant - like vessels? Perhaps that would be a bit to close to Eve for cryptic's comfort...

Like a carrier type of ship? That would be interesting. It could act as a means of transport for other ships with lower warp speeds.

Yeah, I mean in eve i think every ship higher then cruiser class could carry a certain amount of drones, but the carrier class carried the most. Perhaps STO could have just one class for both factions able to carry shuttles in this way, as its main strength?

edit: actually that may be false, i'm not sure how many drones Titan-class ships carried, but a Carrier's main strength was its drones.

There has been talk that the Klingon faction will get 'carriers w/ fighters'.

I hope they do, but i'm not sure if that fits into the whole star trek canon.

I really like the idea of shuttles as pets but it would be cooler if u can fly around it free too, as a support craft for when your ship is too big to enter a astrobelt, or too take scans in a nebula.

A shuttle build race like with the delta flyer would be fun too.

That would be fun, any sort of shuttle customisation would be a welcome inclusion in whatever form they take in the gameplay.
