Hi there, some of you may remember me asking this in the IRC channel but I thought I should ask it here too, hopefully getting an answer from a dev on the subject as well as getting fellow member's comments on the subject.
Basicly, my question is weather or not we will see Chodak and Garidians (NPCs) in STO and weather or not they and anything else relevant to the old TNG game 'A Final Unity' will appear.
The Chodak still seem to be around though in somewhat small numbers (atleast from what's seen in the game), and last time we saw the Garidians their government was in a state of anarchy following the return of the Fifth Scroll.
Also I would like to possibly visit some of the places from the game, if possible. Mertens Station over Cymkoe 4, Morassia, Frigis and Allanor are all places I would like to visit if I had the opertunity to.

I guess I don't totally understand questions like this. Is this something that you need to see in the game in order to play it, or are you looking for a spoiler?
You could probably make up some back story and put something similar in your NPC crew though.

Do you really want the guys from the Jimmy Neutron movie in game? Or were you not talking about the egg guys, it has been a while since I've played Unity.

I think that would be awesome. I still think A Final Unity was one of, if not the best Star Trek game, even to this date. To bad it isn't playable on newer computers :(

props to curtst for being the first really know what I'm talking about.
And no truthseer, I'm not talking about some race from a cartoon. The Chodak (http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Chodak)were around before jimmy nutron existed and they arn't just a puddle of goo outside their enviromental suits. Their appearence outside of their shell is similar in appearence to a trilobite with arms and legs of a humanoid.
The Garidians I would fully expect to be playable with the release of the Romulan faction, they are almost identical in appearence and use the same ships. They are in fact an offshoot of the early Romulans, similar to how the Romulans are an offshoot of the Vulcans.

Normally you wouldn't see another company's creation in someone elses works because of copyright issues. But since all the games that involved the Chodak were Microprose and Spectrum Holobyte, its very possible. Because Atari bought these companies and Atari so happens to be the parent company for Cryptic Studios. So the I wouldn't fully rule out the possibilities.
However, I don't recall Cryptic listing Star Trek games as sources of reasearch. So I honestly wouldn't expect them in.

Slightly off topic but, yes you can still play this game.
You can download a free program called DOS Box and install and run the game from within the program. :D
You may have to look online for instructions to get it working properly though.

Blimey, been a while since I'd played that game: Intro (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwMVZJ5sawo) & Play Through Pt 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo8jn5OMvck)

I have tried that. The game still wouldn't let me because apparently my cd drive is too fast lol. I tried it with other games following the directions of what worked for other folks and I still couldn't get them to work. Those games were Star Trek Judgment Rites and 25th Anniversary.

I spoke to one of the devs in IRC chat. He couldn't give me a definate answer to my question, partialy because of being the wrong dev to ask, but said it isn't beyond the realm of possibility. I know I will be making a Garidian character when the game comes out with the Romulan faction but it would be nice if cryptic covered the races on what happened sence the end of the game.

You have to copy the CD to a directory on your HDD, then find online the patched install.exe which will let you bypass errors from the hardware detection screen. Download that patched install.exe and overwrite the CD's original install.exe.
When you run DOSBox, be sure to mount the HDD directory (to which you copied the CD) as a CD-ROM drive.
Then, install the game, and play it! :)
For example:
mount d c:\sttng_cd -t cdrom
mount c c:\
Back on-topic, I too would like to see ties to 'A Final Unity' as, obviously, I am also a fan. :)
With that said, though, I see so much ground to cover in the history and timeline of Star Trek Online that I would not miss any of it. Also, I have to go back and play 'A Final Unity' to confirm, but I'm fairly sure that its sector of space -- the Kridnar Block -- isn't in the playable area of space that Star Trek Online will offer at launch.

Now that Romulus is gone the Garidians could take a major step in being an influential race within the Romulan's sphere of influence and I could imagine the Chodak atempting to rebuild their empire following the empire's diseray.

But the discovery of the Fifth Scroll left the Garidian society in disarray as well. The Chodak seat of power is gone... I see more potential for refugees or 'small-time' factions than serious contenders, even compared to the scattered Romulans who will doubtlessly regroup very quickly.

The destruction of Romulus is imho a much greater loss than a societal uproar. This could have been settled through political reforms much faster too.

I vote for the Return of the Garidians. Sub-Factions would be an enrichment. Commanding an up-to-date Vulcan Sh'Raan vessel in the name of the Federation (and Vulcan) would be great as well.

Nice necro :p
but still, the Garidians would make a good addition to a future Romulan faction. Their society could have settled down since the events of A Final Unity, and that stability would be very beneficial to the Romulans. Indeed the Romulans may call in a few favors from the Garidians to help in the reconstruction. According to the lore behind the Garidians, the Romulans shared a great deal of technology with them, during the Romulan's time of need, they may call on their Garidian friends.
