noob question...so this takes place 30 years in the future ... and the federation is against the Klingons i thought we were all cool, and at the end of nemesis there was promise of a Romulan alliance (or atleast peace treaty) with the federation

I recommend reading the "path to 2409"(the start date of the game) articles. They are giving the background to the story of the game. Not much is known beyond those. Some of them are a good read anyway. Here's the link:

How did the setting get into it's current situation with the Klingons and such, is what I think it being asked. But as previously said, you should just read the Path.
