View Full Version : Stuff that will make you grin.

Welcome to another of Zeframe Cochrane's almost pointless but always entertaining STO threads.

When I play a game, it's always fun when I come across the occasional obscure reference or inside joke. A play on a pop culture name, an item that relates to something in real life, etc. The cool thing about Star Trek is that in many ways it has helped shape pop culture and the franchise itself is full of obscurities and inside jokes. There are a couple that I really want to see;

Quatloos - This has got to be in the game somewhere. First of all it is arguably the single funniest word in Star Trek canon. Say it with me, Quatloo...Quatloo... And watching the brains in the plastic bubble betting Quatloos on the gladiatorial games is hilarious.

Horga'hn - Captain's Holiday was one of the most disturbing episodes of TNG. Not because of the implications of time travel but because of those shorts Picard was lounging around in. Holy Crap! Honestly, I don't need there to be a game mechanic for the Horga'hn and I don't need to be able to use one to announce I want Jamaharon. I just want to be able to buy one and carry it around or put it in my quarters.

So how about everyone else. What stuff do you want to see in STO that will make you grin?

Personally, Quotes from the series that are memorable would always be good, especially Q's one liners please.

If my Doctor says to me at any point

' Damn it Captain, i'm a Doctor not a ........ '

that will make me laugh alot.

Little one liners like that would be excellent.

Security Officers dying in new and creative ways ( hopefully with rag-doll physics ) that will be funny as well.

Agreed... but you do realize that the terms "newbie" and "noob" should be stricken from the vocabulary of anyone who plays Star Trek Online in favor of the term "newcomer," right? :D

As for quotes, I hope we don't run into these all the time, but certainly it would be fun to hear the occasional variation on:

"I'm a doctor, not a [X]!"

"He's dead, Jim."

"I canna change the laws of physics!"

"Shut up, Stella...."

"I don't like to lose."

"Today is a good day to die!"

"Please state the nature of the medical emergency."

"I just love scanning for lifeforrms!"

"You will adapt."

You get the idea.

(Side note: Star Trek seems way low on catch-phrases compared to Star Wars. Is that a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?)

Give me Morn and some references to his past. I laughed a lot from that episode. Oh and if there ever is a time travel quest, please let me take part in the Great Tribble Hunt.

If I get any kind of mission details that contains the phrase "...but you're the only ship in the quadrant..." I might immediately reply with "Oh no, I'm not buying that one, try again!" LOL

How about a planet entirely filled with Gorn... that you can have a fist fight with. Kind of like that Jet Li film, The One, at the end where he's on that pyramid thing fighting all those convicts. Except replace the pyramid thing with a desert mound and convicts with the Gorn.

Erm. Getting missions off Janeway would be fun. Purely to say "oh Kathryn. you once fell in love with an irish hologram. you could do so much better!"

What else. Binars would be good for a laugh. Anything with Q would be fun. Facing a cystal entity and asking it if it knows superman. KHAAAAAAAAN (as somebody unfortunatly has already said). Going into some anomaly and being flung into the delta qudrant for a few weeks (7 years seems excessive). Mr Sulu saying Helloooo everytime I use my communicator. Stewie Griffon reading Kirk's eulagy to Spock. ECH's everywhere, and all of them look like the doctor. and act like him too. Odo as a security officer, quark as my barman. Seven of Nine meeting spock.... i could go on.

for me, it will be stupid little things.
visiting deep space nine.
searching out whats left of regula.
Going to earth and possibly visting Starfleet HQ or the academy.
wanting to see a number of planets especially from TNG.
Little things that most trek fans will pick up on immediately.

QFE. And TOS uniforms.

Definately Tribbles FTW.

But I must disagree with the second half of your statement Trixxe, TOS uniforms rock!
(just look at your own avatar picture...it doesn't get any better than that ;))
