Hi all,
Just posted a follow up to the interview I posted months back. Years ago I did an article that PC Gamer picked up from my site when the game was at the old publisher. When Cryptic got the game, we thought it would be fun to ask the same questions that were asked in the original interview to see how the game had changed during the development. I have just posted the follow up questions which goes into greater depth. I did not do any trolling of sites or forums to ask the questions as I asked them from my perspective as a gamer and was not influenced by any prior postings...

But since exploration is a big part of STO, there will be times when the best thing to do is pick a direction and see what’s out there!
That sounds awesome.
Thanks for posting the interview;it answered a few of my questions about the game(and then, raised a few more)

That's Trek to me :) Thanks for the info!

You are welcome. I know there was alot to cover and I know from the comments made from the last interview that you needed more info. I was stuck as we had agreed to ask the same questions, as alot of the stuff in this one, they were not able to comment on, so I had to wait until they could. That being said, this has potential to be huge, and if the new film is as big a hit as I suspect it to be, could be one of the biggest MMOPGS ever.

Great interview! It just confirms the fact that this game has the potential to kick some serious jmo tail. Can't wait to 'boldly go'

I think for me, I am just hoping that the full potential can be done, but I am not sure technology is fully there yet. For example, they do the Borg invasion, we rally our team and other teams come into the battle. So while our team attacks them, we decide to beam over soldiers to try to sabotage the Borg. Now while this can be done in theory, how do they handle other teams? I would hate to pull off a bold and risky move and learn that another team is alreay there, or worse, the Cube is blown up by another team while we are on it. My guess is that they may limit the encounters to one team.

That is a new screenshot as well, if I am not mistaken.

It may have appeared elsewhere earlier, but according to my notes it showed up at IGN's Star Trek Online section (http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14270158/star-trek-online/images/star-trek-online-20090220050102942.html?page=mediaFull) on 2009/02/20.
I actually just popped in to this thread to say thanks again to "Zinc" for another interview. So, "Fleet Actions," you say? Hmmm. :)
More importantly, considering how I've complained about folks from Cryptic calling ship combat "strategic," I wanted to be sure to say a word of thanks to Zinc for his latest description:
Space combat is designed to be a paced and tactical experience.
Excellent! Not only does this use the perfectly accurate "tactical" instead of the probably misleading "strategic," but the word "paced" is an exciting and accurate word for describing the intended perception of the speed of space combat without actually using the word "slower" (as in, "slower than ground combat"). Great job here.

Am I the only one who noticed this?
Switch out the nacelles, the pylons, the saucer, the bridge, change the color details or windows … the team has done some incredible stuff!
I'm wondering if that's purely the exterior feature or if it will alter how your Bridge interior appears on missions. I don't want to read too much into it, but at the same time I don't want to dismiss something cool.
Good job dude, wonderful interview.
And good job to cryptic too for making some great choices for this game.

The more cryptic interviews about STO i read, the more i like... I know they said at the start they made everyone involved watch all the shows and movies, but i actually really believe it the more i read.. They seem to have a very good grasp of what Trek is all about.
I sorry Perp Ent. went bust for the folk that worked there, but for STO i think its the best thing that happened for it. Im really pleased Cryptic got the '2nd bat'. I was no where near as excited about the game when Perp had it..
I really can not wait to get my teeth into this game, sounds like its going to be a blast!
