We have a lot of guilds set-up already, including multi-national guilds expecting to play on one server. It would be a real shame if all these players had to disperse and form new guilds if we find out later down the line that servers are localized.
Has there been any more clarification/mention of the issue from Cryptic lately? Hope im not missing something.

Its possible they still havent decided. At this point they would only be testing on one server anyway, so whether they decide to keep it that way or just make copies of it wouldnt make much of a difference as far as their work is concerned. That said, I would say that whatever Champions Online does there is a good chance STO will work the same way :o

Bill Roper on Champions
Will the game be launched worldwide at the same time and will there be any restrictions between the North-American and European community?
We’ll have both US and EU servers, but we haven’t decided if players can be on either of the continental realms. How it feels and plays is really what will make that decision for us in terms of how we intermingle the communities.
Champions will be out in July, so we'll soon have an idea of how it will work exactly.

Excellent point! It never really occured to me before now, but unless there is some sort of "universal translator" in game, then they BETTER have more than one server(especially for different countries), otherwise alot of people wont be able to understand each other :o

How do you think EUROPEAN servers cope? We don't. Unless the servers are specified as English, French, German etc.
I'm all for one centralized server, or three at most, allowing players from all continents to join any server they choose. IMHO, it's the ONLY way to create an MMORPG and the only way to make it feel as if the world really is alive.

It's too early to say. I hope there are both regional and language specific servers. At the same time I wouldn't want people to be limited to the regional ones (maybe give them a Spanish test for a Spanish speaking server and stuff ;) ).
I am fully against a world server. I hate dealing with other languages, possible lag and stuff.

Well you can always just separate the chat depending on your geographical IP address.

Chapions Online's performance will probably affect which route Cryptic goes with STO. Though personally I'm hoping for one single massive server - language barriers be damned.

I don't think language is the key issue. People will just start groups based on languages, Spanish fleets, German fleets etc. A lot of Europeans seem to speak reasonable English any way as they're taught it in school. I was drinking with a Swede earlier and his English was pretty good, though he said it's easier to understand Americans than Brits because they hear them more on telly.

I'm with you there! One single server would be awesome. I like the Universal Translator idea as well. Final Fantasy XI has a great solution for the language barrier, maybe STO could try the same sort of thing?

Yea, I loved FFXI's multi-region servers. Even if Cryptic doesn't go with the single server option, I would still hope that they see the advantages of servers with multiple peak times (otherwise, what would the night owls among us do?).

Hope im not missing something. There's just as many, or more oping that there will be multiple servers, and whether one is EU or NA is never a problem. There's always ways around these things even if they restricted access n some way. One server will kill STO before it hever has a chance.
