View Full Version : The Klingons need a theme song...

I just saw the new vid in another thread, that Voyager theme gets me everytime. It some how envokes a desire to stand up, take of my hat, salute or place my hand over my heart as it plays.
The Klingons need a theme to envoke such emotions for them...or ban the Voyager theme(j/k) so Im not torn so horribly by its pull.
Some one has to have some Klingon theme music somewhere...post 'em if you got 'em!

I think the Klingons do have a theme song.
It first appeared in The Motion Picture (in the opening scene with the three Klingon K'tinga-class warships),and has been used as the Klingon theme in TNG and DS9

Thats not bad! It feels perfect for a cloaked stalking of a target. Its like an opera playing quietly under its breath...like a Klingon captain has his own personal theme music and the band onboard the ship is trying not give the ship away while its playing it.
I could use some strong male Klingon voices singing opera to our theme song too....sort of Soviet propoganda-esque. Not too much like Soviet theme...maybe not so many voices(no Klingon Broadway musicals please), but I like the strength and warrior-esque feel that it would bring.
Anyway...this will do, though I'd like to see something new in the vein of the Movie's.

Exactly right (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfwMCnPYuOs)! This is the Klingon's theme song. I really love this song and I would love to blast away Federation scum in my Bird of Prey.
What I also want to see is a button I can click that orders my bridge crew to sing battle songs! After all, Klingons are known (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Soldiers_of_the_Empire) to for singing songs as they go into battle! (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/The_Warrior%27s_Anthem)

I really like the above, its what I always think of when I think Klingon, plus it gets the blood pumping very exciting music.
But seriousness aside, whats wrong with This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCARADb9asE)

HA! I agree! Klingon war songs are a must. Either on command, or triggered on occassion by certain circumstances.
Celebratory cheers from the bridge crew on occasion for successfully destroying a target, or landing a critical hit on a target...like taking out propulsion, hitting the bridge, blowing off a nacelle, the successful transporting of a boarding party or getting the first torp hit after the shields drop. These can be due to weapons or boarding party infliction of damage.
*edit*
For immersion, the battle songs, cheers and over all bridge bantor is essential in my mind. If the devs wanted to look into other examples, they should look into the crew environment in Silent Hunter IV. It always felt these starship bridges, especially Klingon bridges, feels a bit like a sub's bridge. Silent Hunter IV is really good at re-creating the bridge interactions and its relativly dynamic.
Such an immersive crew would be great for STO.

All I can say is listen to the opening theme song from the very first Star Trek (TOS) Movie when the fleet of Klingon battle-cruisers is approaching the VGER cloud. That theme music is sick. I also liked the Fight music in Star Trek II, the Wrath of Khan, either would be a fine choice.
It's usually a tribal theme, lots of drums, rattles, shakers, and symbols.
Horns, harps and trumpets for the StarFleet theme.

Did you check out the first page of this thread? :p this is one of the first suggestions and links made lol A number of people agree that this would be perfect for the Klingons in STO.
Daniel "dStahl" Stahl and Andy "Squez" Velasquez (two of our team members) wrote and sing a song (accompanied by acoustic guitar) called "The Ultimate Klingon". It was written in honor of one of our in game Episodes.
I can assure you that we will NOT be using that as the Klingon theme in game. : )

Will STO do something similar to City of Heroes/Villains log in screen? And could we select via options which Faction background and theme music loads up when we start up the game?

Im sure in all the time that they have been creating the game they have had a department create some pretty incredible in game music.
Theres more than likeyl going to be a kind of Juke box where u can play something out of a list of differnt things or not have anything at all.
And if its true to Syar trek then there should be some great things being created for it

Well even though I enjoy the Oboe (its not Oboe the whole time I forgot to mention. Probably a combo of a French Horn, trumpet and Baritone) in the First Movie's "Klingon Battle" Theme, there might be a need for a new theme, and I am sure that between Cryptic and Atari, something could be done. Taking heed from classic music, and maybe even war songs (tribal/conflict) might help. Take some of the older First nations music for example and Drums, crashes and howling people:D Maybe some classic instruments like a sustained Bass screech:p
Listen to this music, and it might make you think "Dude... That has the same kinda feel" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-_LnLY9zWk
Even though the song is quite flowing, the ruff areas would be perfect.
Purely instrumental you have to go Wagner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHjWDCX1Bdw&feature=related this one rules.

"The Ultimate Klingon" certainly sounds inspirational enough, so I don't see why it shouldn't be used . . . although I may have an idea or two. Even though I will not be playing anyone aligned with the Klingon Empire (at least as my main character), I do think that the Klingons are more than deserving of having their own special musical theme that could be developed throughout the game and perhaps used for the loading screens, etc. of a Klingon-aligned player as an option. Either way, I do agree that a lot of the music of the Star Trek universe is more than capable of eliciting emotion, so at the very least it will be great if Star Trek Online blends some of these familiar themes with their own new music in order to create a truly spectacular overall sound for the game -- I am looking forward to it!

But Sir.. Could they not visit DS9 and Perform a Routine.. as an Easter Egg...
The Themes from the Classics work.. Holst :The Planets.. Wagner: Enter the Gates of Valhalla..
Less Techno Midi More Philharmonic... [Support your local chamber orchestra] or
Ethereal themes do not translate as well to a Klingon Battle Cruiser swooping in.. More Menace is required.
