I certainly hope so since this, hopefully, an going to be an MMO. Much of Star Trek takes place within the ships themselves. Otherwise it kind of resembles EVE with Star Trek models for ships.

They're focusing on the core gameplay right now. Cryptic has deadlines to meet. Its important that the core game has as much polish as possible before focusing on other things.
Cryptic has expressed some interest towards interiors but nothing is confirmed. When (if) they are added, they will be of better quality than they would have been if added prior to launch.
Hopefully we will see them after release.

Wow. After reading this thread, even I'm confused about what we're planning to do. : )
No, not really. I think I have a clear idea:
There will be plenty of interiors in the game at launch - there are plenty in the game right now and I don't see them going anywhere. : )
You will be taken to interiors during instanced missions. You'll go to them in persistent ways as well - mostly social, but also in other cases that I'm going to be vague about right now on purpose : ) - There are starbases, satellites, ship interiors (yes, ships), buildings on the ground, caverns under the earth or deep in asteroids - all sorts of places you'll adventure within interiors.
Sadly, what we won't have at launch is the ability for you to customize your own ship, invite other players over and walkaround, seeing hundreds of NPC crew members and investigate every nook, cranny and Jefferies tube on it. We want to make sure that when we a feature like this in, it is a robust system that people will love, not just a marketing bullet point on the back of the box.

He later clarrified (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?p=412805#post412805) that he meant not able to customize INTERIORS at launch, and that we will be able to customize EXTERIORS.

just be clear that all we really know for sure is that there will be no customizable and free-roaming interiors at launch. The only ship interiors you will see are for missions.
However, Cryptic has said they MAY put them in later, and they want the time to do it right. But they have not confirmed that they are going to do it, just as they have not ruled it out either.
So all we know is that it is a no go for launch. Anything else is faith-based.
If not, why doesn't Cryptic just respond to this thread and say YES, THEY WILL. AFTER LAUNCH. WE WILL PUT THEM IN WITHIN A YEAR OF LAUNCH.
They don;t because they probably have no framework or development plan to do it. Which goes against the theory that they will do it, since STO may be out this year.

Possibly after launch. Thats all we know. Nothing is set in stone, but Cryptic has seemed to have some interest in it.
Further, I'd just like to say this. I was worried about interiors too. I was very serious about them being implemented. And then it hit me. I will be playing STO INSIDE my house!!!! Eurika! I get interiors AFTER ALL!!!! :p
Just messing with you. I hope we will see interiors at some point too.
