My Question is this... I understand the need to get Champions Online done and shipped out.. but why in the world, when Star Trek is a Huge Universe with a diverse and broad number of followers, would it get pushed to be released AFTER Champions online..
I went to the meet and greet in San Fransisco, and there were a much larger number of Star trek Fans then there was Champions fans.
My personal opinion is that Star Trek should be the Primary focus of Cryptics efforts, and they should ramp up production, and get this game released before Champions.. For it is Star Trek Online that will carry Cryptic and Atari into the Future of gaming..
Just my opinion..

Champions Online is coming on on June 2nd. I don't know if I want the version of ST:O that's out before then. There might be a cut corner or two. ;)

Err ... STO isn't even in Beta yet and Champions is slated for a summer release. What makes you think they could release STO before Champions, even if the wanted to?

Well, as far as I know they were working on Champions Online first. Then the acquired STO from Perpetual and went to work. Champions is nearly finished. STO is still very much a work in progress.
Its simply that they didnt have the rights to make a Star Trek game until long after Champions was already in development. Development time costs time and money. They arent going to trash can or push back a game just because they've started working on something else.

Basicly, you like ST more than Champions, so shaft all the people who are waiting on Champions? For the record, I too am looking forward to STO more than Champions, but as people have already stated Champions is further along in development, so it would be foolish to divert resources from a game that is almost finished. In the end, its better to have a game that was well made and well tested than a game that was rushed and full of bugs.

And yet, imagine your enormous disappointment and outrage when Star Trek Online is released on May 19th, 2009, buggier than the Florida Everglades. ;)

Cryptic announces "Yes we've moved up the release date! Of course, most of the ships are out of the game. You'll get too have one. Also, away team missions, exploration, and diplomacy is gone. Photon torpedoes and phasers are missing as well. We didnt get to finish the Klingon player avatars, but they are there. They're just missing their legs. Also the character generator can now generate human.....and human. Enjoy!"
Unless I'm mistaken, STO is using the Champions engine, so it makes sense that the engine be put through her paces before risking STO on the hopes that she holds up. Get as much as you can done, then if things fall apart, they will have the artwork and everything done and can focus on ridding the sytem of as many bugs as possible before final release.

Well, that wouldn't be to far from the way Star fleet has been known to operate.
Please refer to Star trek : Generations.. : The Enterprise - B was sent out on a training cruise with a skeleton crew and only the bare minimums.. All the important stuff was to arrive on "Tuesday". So this scenario would be funny if it were apart of the game.. but not as a release. Luckily, I have met and shaken the hands of the Dev Team and spoken with them at length. They are a bunch of highly motivated gamers with a love for their jobs and Star Trek. So this is going to be a great game.. and they have a lot of really talented people working hard on this.. So If i can be hopeful, then everyone can..

Thanks to Cryptic now moving the game release to April, we'll get to play the game sooner! Sure some features had to go! But the game is still playable! Check out the NEW trailer.....
