View Full Version : Instead of 'Screenshots', how about 'Video Clips' like other Websites?

While Screenshots are nice, they don't really show enough of a game.

I have noticed that more current websites are using video clips (ie FlashPlayer 10, Quicktime, etc). For example, here is a page from MSN TV's website:

http://tv.msn.com/

It shows a short video clip of American Idol show and other things.

Imagine if the STO Site had a small section of 5 second Video clips of the following:

Vorcha cruising away from the planet in the Screenshot
Klingons Saboteurs setting explosives
Orion freighter slowly moving through space

I think it might give some more life to the website, give a better idea of the gameplay look, as well as make the website a bit more current. Is that something that is far too difficult to do on a smaller website like this?

My guess is that Cryptic wants to hold off on in-game video until after Champions Online launches in June.

Yeah, I think CINC-dude's got it, here.

As STO is looking increasingly good, its word-of-mouth hype may be overshadowing that of Champions Online.

I know even friends of mine who would never self-identify as Trek fans are suddenly very interested in the kinds of gameplay STO promises -- true exploration; episodes instead of grind-quests; semi-strategic "systems allocation"space combat, as opposed to pure twitch pew-pew, or EVE's "component warfare" model.

Champions Online is releasing pretty effin' soon, if I'm reading the signs right. Cryptic has to let the spotlight shine on it, for a while. Giving us too much STO promo now (as much as I'd love it) would threaten to overshadow Champions Online, I think.

Remember the clips from last year's round of conventions, where Jack Emmert showed up to talk about Champions Online, but all the interviewers kept asking him about STO instead? :D

I mean, I intend to buy and try CO, but my interest is much more focused on Star Trek Online. STO is the "big damn deal" in many people's eyes, it seems.

Cheers,

KOS
