The new movie by J.J. Abrams features scenes set in Starfleet Academy in San Francisco and this got me thinking about STO.
How interactive and comprehensive will Starfleet HQ be in STO?
Will we be able to enter buildings and clasrooms? Will there be training holodecks? Will we be able to see the futuristic San Francisco coastline?
Can we fly around the city in a shuttle?
Will there be housing in San Francisco?
I would like Starfleet HQ to be a really social-oriented place as well as a place for training and resupplying like a HUB.
What do you want to see in this key location?

Well many expect the Starfleet Tutorial to take place at the Academy. And I wouldn't be surprised if we can see the 25th Century San Fransisco Skyline, including the Golden Gate Bridge.
As for SF HQ, who knows. Nothing has been mentioned, but we all expect we can visit SF HQ, especially as part of missions. Only time will tell.

Probably be the same with vising other worlds in shuttlecraft, it's automatic. You won't be piloting it, it's just a transition between your ship and the ground.

No Housing at all at Launch from what we have been told.

I concur, it should be. Well except the resupplying, that should be done at Space Dock. Though while at SF HQ, it would be nice to acquire experiemental technology to add to your inventory.
What do you want to see in this key location?
Pretty much is the Academy, Starfleet Medical, Starfleet HQ, and perhaps the 602 Club. :D

Why do you say that. They do you expect every social place in STO, space stations, bases, Risa, centers of traffic, space battles, to be areas of high lag?
Maybe you need a faster processor and faster internet connection.

Lol ... it's more like because that's where Fed players will probably start and it seems that the world and it's dog are going to begin by playing Fed, hence the lag statement ;)

There will be many different servers. Jeez, you actually think there will be millions of players starting out there? There would not be room to move.
I doubt there will be many there at all.

Actually it's not been officially said whether or not they are going to have one big server or lots of servers, but the way it seems to be going at the moment is for one large server like EVE.
I'm sure they'll work it out to avoid the lag ... and i'm also fairly sure Paulo999's lag comment was in jest. Try not to take things so personally :p

lol what he said :P
if anything i could see the academy being the tutorial phase for federation players.. listen to somthing rant about all the controls, shoot somthing, fly somthing. then once were done we might get to choose where we want to spawn (vulcan, trill, earth,Andoria) Like Swg when it first came out. you could choose which planet which city you'd want to spawn in :D
