I have heard from somewhere that the game is most likely, or is, going to be released around the same time as the next ST film. While i think this would be a sound move on the marketing side of things, i just wanted to know if there was any truth to the story.
For all constructive replies, i am grateful.

No, it will not be ready in May. Earliest it will be out is Nov or Dec. Most likely sometime early next year.

You're thinking about the movie tie in Xbox Arcade game. Star Trek: DAC.
STO won't be out for the movie.

Like Vorador said, the expected release is either late this year or early 2010, although nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Cheers,

Oh crapp... I forgot about the film. The Star Trek community will be ruined! The same thing happened with batman. Looks freakin' awesome, though.

The game hasn't even entered beta yet. There's no way it would be ready to coincide with the movie's release if they plan to any amount of proper beta testing involving the public (as opposed to completely in-house.)
Fall '09 has been their stated initial target and they've not said anything about delays as of yet. Of course "Fall" or "Autumn" runs right thru the middle of December so it could release 2 weeks before Christmas and still be within that projection.
That said, most if not all MMOs suffer delays and get pushed back anywhere from a month or two to 6+ months depending on the issues they have to overcome.
Now, it's possible that Fall '09 date may coincide with the movie's release on DVD. Some people on the forums like that idea. While that's a possibility, given the difference in story time lines it may or may not work out to be a good marketing strategy.
Also, a good many people would rather Cryptic release a polished game when it's ready rather than being forced to conform to some outside date like the release of a movie.

All very good points, and i thank you for clarifying that for me, it makes no difference to my plans for STO:
* Start playing the game
* Get to the top of the game
* Dominate the alpha quadrant
Oh... i wasn't supposed to post that :p
