Has anyone heard what planet scale will look like or does anyone have thoughts on planet scale?
I hope that when we are in standard orbit around say, Earth, it looks like those shots of a space shuttle in orbit around Earth. You know, from a view outside the ship, Earth will be huge in the background, so huge in fact, you will only see perhaps 1/4th of the planet.
I am hoping against a planet scale like in Spore, where it looks like someone balled up a wad of chewing gum and stuck it to the bottom of your space ship.

Theres some screenshots and in the video it shows what ships look like near planets though We have no way of knowing the exact distance from the planet the ship is. From the looks of some of them ships won't appear to be anywhere near the size of the planets.

Oh yes. Yes you are correct. It's been awhile since I've looked at screen shots, I guess I never really paid attention to planet scale. I just took another look and am pleased at what I see. The planets look awesome. Thanks for the reminder.

No problem.
In the pictures my biggest concern is the ones with the alien orbital platforms which look like they cover a good percentage of the planet. I'd like to see a picture of those with a starfleet or klingon vessal near them so it is easier to tell how big they are, I assume they are just far enough away from the planet and the picture is taken from a distance so they look larger.

Yeah, I had that same concern.
Even asteroids can be huge, big enough to fly in as we saw several times. I don't mind if they don't go to that extreme, but the planets/nebulas/stars themselves should feel rather large.

Check out the video, at roughly 1.24 you see the NX-91001 fly by those structures.

As long as your are over your intended target and within Transporter range, is it critical to know the orbit altitude?

Only when your altitude is critical for those tight surveillance missions. You know, like the ones where you park over North Korea and take pictures of missile launch pads.

Point taken.

They could always do it like they did the planets in EAs Earth and Beyond- at all times you could only see a small part of the planet at all times.

Looks like the planets may scale nicely.
But looking at the screen shot "Space - Dry Dock" Why would you build a dry dock and station right near a bunch of asteroids :p Must have slipped passed the Federation building regulation committee lol.
