Obviously the Alpha and Beta Quadrants will be available, but I wonder will there be any exploration in the Gamma and Delta Quadrants?

I need to look at maps again, doesnt the Klingon Empire span parts of both Alpha and Beta? If that is true, and the Romulans are not in as a playable faction yet, then it may be we are just seeing Alpha for now with the next expansion adding Beta and the Romulans. But a quadrant is massive! How much content can they really develop? Good question, had not thought about it before.

Yeah I believe a small part of the Klingon Empire is in Alpha Quadrant space, if not just a few Klingon colonies. In Deep Space Nine and Voyager the Romulan Star Empire is referred to be in Alpha Quadrant space but in almost all Star Trek maps I've seen, Romulan Star Empire is wholly in the Beta Quadrant.
At least by Star Trek Nemesis, only a small section of the Alpha & Beta Quadrants have been mapped. System J25 in the Beta Quadrant (Where the USS Enterprise 1701-D first encountered the borg) is over 7,000 light years from Federation Space making that what a 15-17 year journey at high warp?
Anyways, there is mass potential for expansion content that's for sure. Being able to retrace the path of the USS Voyager in the Delta Quadrant would be awesome!

I agree this is a good question and it's a refreshing change. I believe it will be Alpha quadrant at launch. They can always add Quadrants in later expansions along with other races and factions. It would be nice in a future expansion to test my Klingon against a Hirogen.:D

STO is going to be Alpha and Beta Quadrants at launch. Gamma Quadrant is hinted being the first STO expansion. Then we will get the Delta Quadrant.

Odo returned to the Founders at the end of DS9 so I can assume he is probably is either 1) Very influential with Dominion leadership or 2) He is the actual new leader of the Dominion. Either way, they are most likely not a threat to Alpha Quadrant space.. of course what fun would an expansion be without the "Threat from the Gamma Quadrant" ?

I hadn't even thought about which quadrants would be available but this thread has got me excited! The thought of eventually having all 4 quadrants available is to much to contain...feeling....fai......faint.............

I found this to be one of the easier to read maps of the Startrek Galaxy. The header says pre-occupation (Dominion war?) I wonder how much it changes in the STO timeline.

Yeah, I'm quite sure we'll see (at least parts of) the Alpha and Beta quadrants.
For the people that are saying we'll have only Alpha quadrant: you should realize the Klingon homeworld is in the Beta quadrant...

I'm guessing the wormhole at DS9 will be more or less "off limits" (by Starfleet?) at launch before an expansion is released. I'm cool with that. So many other places i would love to check out in Federation Space alone.
Regardless, it would be a nice touch in STO as you approach or fly around deep space nine, you could casually see the wormhole pop open with [NPC] ships coming in and out of it every once in awhile.
Oh the possibilities!

the Klingon Empire is ENTIRLY in the Beta Quadrant. The Federation, however; in in both the alpha and beta quadrants. the line goes right thru the Sol system (our star system, you know.... Earth). Vulcan and Andoria are in the beta quadrant as is the Rommulan empire. the cardassians and ferengi are in alpha.
