I apologize if this has already been debated to death, I am brand new to the forums and despite a quick search I have not seen this point discussed.
My concen here is for the logical timeline of STO...
At the end of Voyager, with the episode "Endgame part 2", the Federation acquired perhaps the most valuable amount of intelligence ever .... well ... ever.
Not only was it a backlog of a 7 year journey in the Delta quadrant and alient technologies encountered (including a ton of technologies and knowledge about the Borg), but also knowledge about a race that was the bane of the Borg (species 8472 - "Scorpion"). On top of that, and that's the cake, Voyager brings back several huge technologies (Ablative shields, Transphasic Torpedoes...) that are from 26 years in the future.
My point with all this is .... with this amount of new technologies and knowledge, how could the Federation -not- make a huge step forward, becoming the undisputed leader in the Alpha quadrant, as well as a force now pratically untouchable even by The Borg?
I guess we might find out what happened with the snipets of history "The Path to 2409", but it is a small concern of mine as per how to stay relatively constant in the story, while maintaining a sort of balance in the opposed forces in game :)
All this being said, can't wait to start playing he game!

You act like the other races in the known galaxy are stagnant and not prone to expansion and growth either. In Star Trek Online, Starfleet will have transwarp hubs avaialble for isntant travel, as well as standard warp for closer journeys, and then of course I will wager that we will be capable of researching slip stream which would essentially let us make our own starships transwarp ships without the need of a hub or wormhole. I can possibly see that the transwarp hubs of Federation or Klingons may not be fit for taking the larger ships in, hence possible outfitting with slipstream.

This is true, but how many of the other alien races in star trek got a gift-wrapped lost lamb of a ship packed with future technology that we know about? Of course it's plausaible that they all had their own "Voyagers" and whatnot, what with the Caretaker's search seemingly being random.

Considering Voyager couldn't get it to work correctly, and that was with Seven of Nine's help, I seriously doubt the Federation is going to take a giant leap with slip stream all the sudden. Even in the novels, slipstream is still quite unstable and unpredictable in 2381. Not to mention that the Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians would undoubteldy demand or at least be spying on Federation technological leaps. Espionage is still big business even in the 24th century and I am sure it will be in the 25th century.

Espionage for one. And I doubt the Borg will be frustrated for long against that technology. Not when Voyager gave them two extended looks at the tech anyways.

I figure they are. I find it difficult to believe most of the other races can't replicate what was feasible for the Fed in the TOS era. They won't be doing it willy-nilly, but time pirating is likely a business among less scrupulous races. I figure that's the central plot device of the new movie for example.

I think that's reasonably logical, though I don't really consider novels canon, at best canon in lieu of actual canon.

There would have to be some kind of tech balance in the game. I don't think I would play a game an opponent is so powerful that they just scan my ship and it blows up. Where's the fun in being blown up constantly?

Sheer Pluckiness.
I mean, for most SF crewmembers, that's what happens when they face the Borg.

That makes no sense though, any force entrusted with defense wants and has a duty to strive to be more powerful than the enemy.

Even with this Tech they brought back, who know how long it would take to completely reverse engineer it and make it able to be installed on other ships. Some of that technology may use components that we simply would not know how to create the raw materials for.

The TPD is in effect to protect history and current timelines. Anything from the future is not considered messing with history.

so bringing tech from the future isnt affecting the timeline?
HMMM pretty sure it is.
So if I went back to War of Independance and gave the British army modern rifles it wouldnt affect the timeline?

Technically the upgrades would have disappeared, or it would be a causality paradox. As Admiral Janeway of that future would have never existed to create transphasic torpedoes or the armor technology in the first place, since Voyager got home 19 years earlier.
