Cuz we reaaallly need it, everytime I log on here there are at least 300 people (Forum Wide) looking at the postings and whatnot, and a STO chatroom on this site would be phenomenal for realtime conversations!

I'd definately log in, but the problem is that it would require a full time mod and i doubt they want to have a mod moderating a chat room 24/7
What they MIGHT be willing to do is have one for certain hours of the day, 5 days a week but with the amount of people logging in, I'd bet the chat would scroll by faster than we could read it.

Or perhaps different "Topic Rooms", ya know "Fleet Information # Members Chatting", General Discussion # Members Chatting", nothin crazy with fonts or colors, but a basic chat!

Yeah but you would need a different mod for each room, more man power = less chance for implementation

This does bring up an interesting idea though. Perhaps Cryptic, or a major STO fansite, could setup an IRC chatroom and they could assign certain posters (or whoever they want) to be moderators. Awen could beam in from time to time, chat with the crowd, check up on the moderators. IRC would be a great format for it, as it is one of the widest used chat systems, accessible through dedicated IRC programs as well as browsers via Java and plug-ins (Firefox has one, Chatzilla I think it's called).

Um, no. Cryptic is responsible for what is posted on this forum, and it would be impossible(or at least very difficult) to effectively moderate a live chatroom. There are plenty of other places on the internet for that kind of thing if thats what your looking for :o

If this is going to happen, it's going to be on the initiative of private entities unassociated with Cryptic. A real-time chat room hosted by Cryptic would likely present a series of liability issues.

Good points all, speaking of private entities, lots of guild/fleets have their own web based chat rooms. Including the {UFP} (no its not recruitment thing as that's not the purpose of this thread, but it does spawn some ideas that I will discuss with the admiralty. Possibly some fcommunication/meetings with other fleets or just some community building, thanks for the idea ;)
