I've had some really interesting discussions with various other players on this board. Perhaps when the game development is advanced a little. Cryptic would like to invite groups of players to private areas of the forum to discuss these ideas in some more detail. For example I can think of PvP ideas and Crafting ideas that I have seen discussed that could have a real impact on the game.

NDA would have to be in place and the teams would need to be developer led, perhaps a resource issue? Small teams maybe 4-5 players + a dev. Ideas could be play tested if they had merit and systems tweaked and balanced by the teams.

There could easily be teams in

PvP
Economy
Ship design
Storyline development
Episode content

there are tons more.

A good idea or flawed in concept?

That sounds like an amazing idea to me! sign me up for the pvp group! if they care about feedback as much as they say they do they should jump on this or do somthing close to it.

Cryptic is making this game for everyone, not for select groups of people. Everyone should have access or no one should, plain and simple.

Hmm ^^ and that one of theese people would be you obviously.

No, let's be serious, why not let the beta players do theese discussions when they have had a look at the game ? I See no reason do discuss every aspect of the game with 5 randomly chosen people that have no deeper insight in the game than any of the other community members.

Just have a little faith in what Cryptic does until the beta, and then let's wait what they make out of the beta after it is over :)

but this would allow cryptic to take a sample of the player base and see what they like or dont like. I wouldnt give them any real say in matters but i think it could b used to see what ppl want.

Everyone's opinion should carry the same weight. Why should these people have more of a right to discuss things then I do? This game is being made for everyone, not certain focus groups. What the community wants and what individuals want are two seperate things.

But why not simply let the beta testers make their minds once they saw the game?
We have barely any information about the matters you want to discuss with the developers.
How could we make any suggestion to their improvemetn unles we saw the game ourselves?

I find this highly illogical ;)

Cryptic has a lot of experience when creating games. They will also have beta personalities involved that will give their input, and like it or not, Cryptic has to take the entirety of the game population into consideration, not narrow view points.

I was thinking of beta players (maybe alpha players?) That's why I said later on in the development. And of course its something I'd like to do! Wouldn't you?

You mean that a discussion with 100s of people? The way the forums are now are capable of self moderating and coming up with useful ideas that are testable and can be developed in a sensible timescale? If you have noticed, devs don't really get into discussions on the board. I'm sure one of the reasons is that the sheer volume of noise generated means that focus is hard to obtain. Its not for a select group of people, then again the game can't be designed by everyone. Smallish discussions with interested and experienced input would help shape things in a good way that benefits everyone , not just select groups of people.

BTW companies use focus groups for a reason, focus! As previously said, the players would have no "real" power over what was developed just a focus for their play testing and discussion.

Meh, its a beta issue really. Let's pretend I posted this in the beta forums.
