Hi all,
Remember the original Star Trek with their intersting uniform choices or maybe you remember Next Generations man skirt (http://www.joeydevilla.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/star_trek_man_in_skant.jpg).
Since the show began uniform designs have come and gone we even have custom creations from the fan base (http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=15387&highlight=uniforms).
What I would like to know is would you like to see these designs resurrectedin STO? Would you like your male character to have a skirt uniform or would you like the classic design? There are countless designs out there pick your favorite and post it here.

No manskirt for me, those things give me unpleasant dreams. My favorite uniform would have to the the uniforms of the late 2370s. I would love to have my crew uniforms centered around that design.

The First Contact-Nemesis era uniforms are the best, IMO, especially the dress uniforms - those were the best dress uniforms seen in all of Trek. That said, I have always rather liked the TMP uniforms and sometimes I wish they would have stuck with those throughout the TOS movies. But I wouldn't want my toon in STO wearing earlier uniforms, no one in any of the shows wears a retro uniform (with the exception of "Trials and Tribble-ations"), so I would like to just stick with the uniforms that Cryptic designs for the 25th Century.

aww thats no fun.
kinda off topic: Well I am curius how Cryptic will do equipment. In a fantasy MMO you kill a npc loot the body and get a new breastplate. You equip that and your model changes. But with STO I am still trying to figure out if they will do that as well. I would assume there would be some equipment/outfits you loot while on away missions.
For me I would like this option of choosing what my avatar looks like. What would even be awesomeer is if they allow cosmetic outfits over function outfits. To elaborate, I loot several pieces of clothing that add to my stats but they all dont match and make me look dumb. So we turn on cosmetic mode and I can equip/make my character look cool with a basic uniform but I am still gaining all the bonuses from the functional equipment.
This is part of the reason I made this thread. I want the option to have several uniform designs, outfits, battle armor, etc that I can equip and wear to make my avatar stand out.
Imagine a Klingon officer in the manskirt!

Wow, I think you're the very first person I ever met who liked the TMP uniforms. Most people seem to consider them incredibly ugly at worst, a product of '70s fashion and best forgotten at best.
I'm glad they redesigned the uniforms for the Wrath of Khan and the later movies, those uniforms (known as "monster maroons") are the very best Star Trek uniforms ever in my opinion. The FC/DS9 uniforms are second, and I agree that the dress uniforms from that era are the best dress uniforms we've seen.

:p I couldn't stand the TMP uniforms...
I really liked the Monster Maroons, though.

Nope, the Monster Maroons first showed up in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. These are the TMP uniforms. (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Starfleet_uniform_(early_2270s))

before this thread i've never seen the maroon ones called anything but TMP uniforms. I figure that the ones from "The Motion Picture" were just a budgetory consequence, and were forgotten when the maroon ones became affordable

Oh man I actually saw the episode with the manskirt recently and I thought "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?" The poor dude, could you imagine being an actor cast in Trek and being told you got to wear THAT? End of career. :D
Agree with the rest who say the Khan uniforms were the best. They looked the most like an actual uniform. Next favs would be the FC/DS9 uniforms. I would love some kind of hybrid of the Khan & FC/DS9 uniforms. Keep the style of Khan but use the darker colors from FC/DS9.

I've seen the Monster Maroons called "TMP era" uniforms before... Which would be technically correct since the Monster Maroons are from that era, but also incorrect since the Monster Maroons never appeared in TMP.

hmm.... i was goin by era, and figured that the budget didn't allow for better uniforms, but it doesn't really matter, lol.
how would we describe the other uniforms by era anyway? seeing that the TNG, VOY, and DS9 uniforms were technically the same era, but different uniforms.

I'm personally hoping we'll see just about all of the designs we've seen throughout the years available to wear in game. I never did like the TNG jumpers up until the last few seasons. The reboot of Enterprise seemed to keep those in mind as well. I'm more of a fan of the 80's movies attire myself. But in the era of the game it seems doubtful that uniform would be used much except in 'time travel' scenarios or just playing around on the holodeck... depending on how that pans out.

Well didn't the Devs say we get a choice of what uniform our crew get to wear?
I too am a fan of the Post-TNG era Gray Jumpsuit design. But when it comes to away teams, I gotta have the Hazard Team uniforms.

Wow, never heard them called Monster Maroons before, lol. But those are my favs too! Imagine if they used that design FOR TMP? Wonder if it would have been even better movie? The problem with the TMP uniforms, (other than them looking like pajamas) was there was no contrast. If they would have given them black pants (like every other series, except Enterprise), they would have been passable.

I never liked the TMP designs.
Too colorless.
For the same reason,I love the TOS uniforms.Bright.Bold.Not very military, but a reflection of the Federations positive outlook.
The FC Uniform was the perfect Starfleet uniform.
Also,I liked the anti-time future uniforms from "All Good Things.." and "Endgame"
I'm still neutral towards the new uniforms by Cryptic for STO.

I like the Cryptic uniforms. Much better than FC uniforms. (never did care for the purple tops). I really like the high collars with V opening on neck.

I drew my inspiration from the Battlestar Galactica design.
Give it a second look.
BSG is military sci-fi.
its a different genre then Star Trek.

i have to agree with the Wrath of Kahn era uniforms i like the military look to them i honestly didnt care for the uniforms for TNG untill the movies came out something about one peices that just seems odd. i think second for me would be DS9. my opinion starfleet is the miltary/defensive arm of the federation the uniforms should look at least a little military and not like pajamas

I would think you would be wearing post FC uniforms, unless you were time traveling.

I am hoping for a uniform design that is the same across the board, with the only difference being the accessories that are added (like Worf's bandoleer)

I know this is a rather old thread, but hear me out...
When I play Star Trek Online, I think I'll become something of a non-conformist of the current Starfleet uniforms, and equip my crew with The Wrath of Khan-era red coated uniforms. Those look awesome, for some reason.
This brings up an interesting question, will older uniform styles still be available as options to wear and equip your crew with? If so, maybe there can be slight consequences of wearing them as opposed to the newer styles, as they are no longer the standard issue uniforms.

I Liked the one-piece uniforms of TMP and first season TNG...I think in the future all uniforms will be skin-tight 1-piece deals, it just makes sense. HOWEVER, they just don't look as snappy as the bulky WOK era movies. Finally, if I had to pick:

I'm quite happy with what I've seen of cryptics SF designs. I agree with the majority that TMP uniforms were hideous and was relived to see the cool looking costumes stay on after TWOK. The man dress was wince worthy and the picture of it in the OP made me chuckle quite a bit.

i'd like to have uniforms from all series be options, as well as enough customization to make new uniforms.
Really i'd love a customizable color scheme for different departments as well. It never sat well with me that their color-coded system was so vague. I mean mixxing certain elements together with each other seemed rather ridiculous, why have a color coded system in the first place if not to tell at a glance what the person is capable of.

One thing I always wish they kept from WOK was the engineers uniform. Working around M/AM reactions and all the other crazy stuff in engineering you would need a suit that might be able to protect you from radiation and things (though you'd have to add a helmet.)

I would prefer the red uniforms used in the first movies, those are the best from where i stand, my crew actually wears them instead of the "new" issued uniforms.

Oh, you mean the uniforms that look like astronaut suits? Yeah, those were pretty appropriate for engineering crews, given the danger of exposure to certain harmful elements.

Yep. Heck throw on a helmet and those things look like they could serve as space suits. Poor Geordi and his guys, they just get a standard uniform if things go wrong.

The images that accompanied that UK PC Gamer article showed some nice uniform variations, including some that looked reminiscent of the TOS and TOS-film eras.
For some reason, it seems we are not allowed to post the scan of those images, even though they have been released to the public in the UK. I guess only those who were lucky enough to save it to hard drive before the link was removed are able to enjoy it.
Hopefully they will release more images of the uniform variations to the US audience soon.
