I just read over the design specs of the NX-91001 and I found this:
Holoemitter Trans-Deck Array System

Might that just be implying that we weill be able to use holograms as crewmates as was promised to us ("with some limitations") ? If so I really think a lot of people who are recently dampening enthusiasm are going to be prooven wrong. The game has some interesting aspects we still haven't seen and I think if you look really close you can find some answered to often asked questions by looking at the news close enough ;)

What do you think? Holografic crewmates on deck and maybe mobile emitters for awaymissions (maybe every ship got only one or something like that)?

Add your own findings as posts!:)

lol :D

That may need explaining to those not familiar with Red Dwarf :p

Is H the only available option? :D

Do you think it'd be possible to make all holograms neurotic, insecure, overconfident *******s?

Comes built in, after all, we don't just have Rimmer (heh, name still makes me laugh), how about The Doctor from Voyager.

Now that I think about it, Rimmer's name really does sound like a lavatory disinfectant. :D

What, Bonehead?

Who's Rimmer? I hope you are not talking about Dr. Zimmerman?

How did you know that???

No, I mean "Ace." They wouldn't call him that no matter how many times he let them beat him up. :p

And where is the difference between a holographic character / NPC and a "normal" NPC? You make 'em both up and customize them like you want to ... so I see nothing, except maybe the mobile emitter, that would actually be different to any other minion you'd create in the game.

He's a holographic character from an awesome show called Red Dwarf. I never really thought about it before, but there are similarities between him and the EMH besides them both being holograms.

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, there got to be similarities. That's probably why I thought you were just misspelling Zimmerman, when you were talking about Rimmer :D

Happy 100th:D And yes, they had me thinking... have I been hearing it wrong the whole time? Is his name Rimmerman or something:( That would be funny, but I guess I should have thought about there being another show that was being referenced:D

Going back to the thread, do you think it might be possible that Starfleet may have developed some kind of internal mobile emitter? Like Rimmer's light-bee.

If this were the case it would allow a lot more flexibility of holographic characters.

If that's what you want, why don't you just create whatever you want with a normal character, and RP him as holographic with an internal emitter.

I'm not trying to be snarky. I am curious though, just like that other guy, what benefit would a holographic crewmember/character be? How would it be fundamentally different than any other kind of character?

first off he can't be hit by phaserfire (at least not if he is not using a mobile emitter but the ships emitters)
second, he would have all the benefits a ologram has over a real person. (what ever way cryptic thinks this should show itself in the game..)
But ultimately because there has been an exceptional crewmate on nearly every ship since TOS.
On TOS it was Spock, on TNG it was Data, on DS9 it was Odo, on Voy it was the Doctor. (ENT was an exception in that matter)

Exceptional crewmater differ from the rest of the crew because they are either a totally different species with totally cool abilities or they are artificial. And I guess that artificial lifeforms are the choice of the developers, because theis special abilities are easy to emulate within the game. Just make them stronger or invulnerable or something. In special missions their function could be impaired to prevent the mission from beeing too easy. But generally why shouldn'T you have a EMH or an ESH (emergency security hologram)
;)

Now that WAS a classic episode :)

Now all we need are "better Than Life" simulators to replace the Holodecks and were laughing :)
