What do you do on Star Trek Online?
I’m a content designer on STO. I get to design and create some of the episodic content and the events that the players experience in our game. I’m a lifelong Star Trek lover, so for me this also means that everything I create must feel like it belongs in the Star Trek universe. If you play one of my episodes and don’t feel like you just watched something from one of the series or movies, then I’m not doing my job correctly.
Ya know I think you should let me have a go at some of these episodes, just to make sure you are doing your job correctly :D
Failing that, hi there.

Ha! Worldgroup... yes that was the software we used for the ISP... up to that point most ISP's at the time were all terminal based BBS's.. but Worldgroup was a GUI... We actaully gave away dail-up internet access for awhile, but eventually had to start charging a fee to keep adding modem banks. When we eventually sold the business to Compuserve we had over 400 modems :)

Howdy, Dan!
I can't help but notice that the two favorites which you listed (Khan, the Jem'Hadar) were both villains. Also, your Kobayashi Maru solution was "Meh. Let `em die ..."
All of this tells me which developer I'll be swearing at when I'm playing through an STO episode which is absolutely busting my stones. It'll be one of yours, no doubt! ;)

It's nice to get to know a little bit more about you, Dan! It is great that the people who are working on the game really seem to be devoted fans of the franchise, because I think that ensures the developers are more in tune with what the players want, which will ultimately make for a more satisfying game experience overall in my opinion.

Despite what Daniel would have you believe, the “dStahl Maneuver” is in fact an exploit. ™.
I knew it...
Excellent interview Dan. I like how diverse everyones answeres are to these questions. A fan of Khan and Star Trek two is always good in my book. Jem'hadar was an interesting choice but a good one to hear. Something tells me you would be a "First" in their order. :D Any chance these are hints to Augments and Jem'hadar being in game?

Heya, Dan!
Y'know, I was once subscribed to one of the first dial-up ISPs in Texas (or possibly the first..don't remember, because that was, like..what?..1988-9?...crap, I'm getting too old to even remember the name or time!). It was based in San Antonio and located on Medical Drive.
Was that your's? If it was, then I think that we may have met back then. The owner's name was either Tom or Dan, IIRC.
My favorite early video game was Spacewars. Remember that one? Two ships, above view, one shaped like an Enterprise, the other like a classic D7, shooting square pixels at each other. Damn! I must have dropped something like $2000 worth of quarters into those machines during the years between 1978 and 1980.
Anyway, good to see a real Trek fan creating episodic content! Looking forward to living the ST experience!

Old guy, and Swedish... mate, take a look at the links in my sig if you are looking to game with others of your generation. I'm hoping to expand AoA back into Europe with this game (I'm UK). Donkey Kong on mame is cool, you'll enjoy even more with a good arcade stick, take a look on ebay, is where I got mine.
Still the best game of that era for me was Moon Cresta. Perhaps because its the one I was best on.
I am also about to have a very close look at that UI shot over Dan's shoulder. PR department might as well cave in now and show us what its like.

I am at a place where im soo close to being able to leave the east coast and join you. Seriously, if I gotta empty recycling bins on your network as the king of Net-janitor's, then so be it.
lol.
Asside from that, while possition requirememts are a little more stringent than "know all episodes of star trek", if you need a writer, I'd like to take that opportunity and prove to the world once and for all, that I dont know how to use a spellcheck, and that my mastery of the english language is flawed.
hahaha.
I would be honored to have an application in at cryptic.
I only hope I dont miss out on too much in the meantime. Maybe I'll just submit some freebie episodes, ya know, get you some extra time so you can find the time to mow your lawn or something.

Thankfully, I'm not worried about your devotion. I respect that you have done a good job getting where you are, and am looking forward to your expertise, paying off for me as a dork.

Hi Dan, welcome to the community.
(I hate responding to these because it feels like an AA meeting greeting)
e.g. "Hi, I'm Dan, and I'm a Trekkaholic".... Chorum: "Hi Dan"
This was my favorite part of your history (liked the jacket idea too though, would love to see it when done):
What is an interesting fact about you that players would be surprised to know?
In my previous career I did a great deal of work on the data networking system behind both the Federal Do Not Call Program and the system that handles all the calls for American Idol. I also created one of the first dial-up ISP’s in the State of Texas in 1990.
Secretly: I've used that program more than I've used anything else the government has to offer, and it really works.

LoL, there's nothing like a little georga style Jim.
Yea, that and some omicron spores, my good doctor...hahaha.
Now that was a good epi.
On a related note, I agree, I would like to see some good fishing game dynamics added as it is a simple add, and cant realy be proxied with any other feature... Oddly(IMHO) its still relaxing and fun like RL fishing , but obviously only if done well.
