I've looked around and couldn't find any. . . was wondering how much of a difference it can make between a Miranda and a Galaxy class, I'm honestly hoping 10 or more =)
Anyone know? Thanks in advance ~

There has not been any solid details on tiers. That being said, there should be a huge difference between a Galaxy and Miranda.

At this point,all we can do is speculate.
Ten ship tiers seems a bit extreme,and almost eliminates the point of having ship tiers.
I think 5 levels would work.

Does that mean that for each tier there would be "x" number of ships avalible to the player to pilot? Of those ships can we use any ship in that tier or do we have to skill up in a certain direction to use a certain ship?

Ah interesting.. thanks for the prompt replies =)
I was thinking the scale varied, but yah thinking about it 5 or 6 tiers would be fine.
1= Miranda, Nova
2= Centaur, Excelsior, Saber
3= Steamrunner, Intrepid
4= Akira, Nebula
5= Prometheus, Defiant
6= Galaxy, Sovereign
I know I'm missing tons of them, just naming a few off the top of my head =)

Kinda like a Pyramid I guess, split down the middle, with multiple tiers, gets smaller at the top, one half for the Federation and the other for the Klingons.

Id have thought only 5 tiers, but each tier would be split into different types. Our starting ship is a 'jack of all trades' but where we specialise from there will determine what type of ships are avaiable. Some would cross over, other wouldnt.
Tier Zero - starter ship
Tier one - Science - oberth, tactical - sabre, diplomatic/exploration - constellation
Tier Two - Science - miranda, tactical - steamrunner, exploration - nova
Tier three - science - soyuz, tactical - excelsior, exploration - intrepid
Tier four - science - nebula, tactical - defiant, exploration - abassador
Teir five - science - olympus, tactical - akira, exploratio - galaxy
Obviously ive missed out loads, there might be more categories - people might disagree with the order, whatever - but i susspect it will be something like that.

Sounds cool to me. What does EVE do with their ships? Is it just if you can afford you can buy it or do they have a tier like system in place?

You need to train the skills to be able to fly the ship first, Which takes time. Also, yes, if you can afford it after you train the skills, you can buy it and fly it. There are Tech 1 and Tech2 ships, and soon to be Tech 3, which are split up into specialized classes of ships, Frigates, Bombers, destroyers, cruisers, battlecruisers ect.

I note with interest that Cryptic has chosen to adopt at least two, and possibly more, starship classes which were original designs of Perpetual Entertainment for that company's version of Star Trek Online. Perpetual, remember, had indicated that between 50 and 55 individual starship classes would be available at launch, most of which would be Starfleet vessels.
Obviously, the dynamic has changed for multiple reasons, not the least of which would be that we now have two in-game factions - Starfleet and the Klingon military. However, if we can take the preservation of some of those classes as an indicator that the intended number might still be something of a guidepost, we can make some educated guesses.
Let's assume that each tier will have a combination of classic and original starships - say a classic-original mix of either 3-1, or 2-2. If each class has four starships, you could have up to six classes, for 24 starships from DANUBE to NX-91001-type. If the same metric applies for the Klingons, that's a possible total of 48 playable starship classes, and the math remains the same whether each factions' classes fall into the same tiers or a split Federation-Klingon tier system.

The thought of having 25 different customizable ships per faction brings to rest the thoughts of ship interiors... I'll still want them eventually though :p
There are sooo many ships that Cryptic will have to come up with for the Klingons though, whether it be through source novels or designing more themselves.
Tiers: (mainly because these are the only real Klingon ships available, not really scaling to Federation standards ~)
1= B'Rel Bird of Prey
2= K'Tinga Battlecruiser
3= K'vort Bird of Prey
4= Raptor Destroyer
5= Vor'Cha Battlecruiser
6= Negh'Var Warship
-That's it! Here's hoping on some sweet brand new looking Klingon designs =)
