I just wanted to know if Cryptic has ever released any information about where the game will be released first and if (or not) it will be released worldwide (everybody can join any server) or continental (you can only join a server on your continent) and if the release will be simultanious or if there will be a delay to (miss)-"translate" the game. Will it be available in europa at all???
I wouldn't mind playing it in english and if possible on an american server. will this be possible for me (germany)

Well I imagine it'll be released to factories in Taiwan and China for printing of the CDs. After that, the boxes will be released to retailers who purchase them and they, in turn, will buy them.
As to what retailers are allowed to buy it first... that's anyone's guess.

Hm ... Sorry but I don't think it works as simple.
Take WoW for example. It is not a problem to buy (or download it from the page) an english client. but a big issue to log on to an american server (from germany).
First of all they don't allow people from outside to get an account with WoW-Am. So you need to get one on Wow-europe.
Might be the same here (would suck though)
I haven't looked into city of heroes but if anyone has, can you let me know if it was the same as mentioned before?

Logically they wouldn't allow someone who can't play the game to buy the game.
As for downloading...
Dunno.

Cryptic plan on just having the one server for STO with everyone playing on it. This will mean that there will be no american servers or continental servers as you have indicated. I have no idea on how they are going to proceed with the launch whether it will be simultaneous or released in the US first they rolled out worldwide. I hope this helps.

I didn't know that had been decided. When did this happen?

Technically it hasn't been 'decided'; it's just something Cryptic has said they would like to do. Apparently, there is a team looking into it, to determine whether it will work or not; they aren't sure yet.

Take WoW for example.
Blizzard outsources localisation and regional distribution of their games.
So, since some company OTHER than Blizzard has bought the license to distribute and operate servers for World of Warcraft in the EU, that would be why you can't go to the U.S.-region servers from the EU (nor vice versa): contractual requirement.

Nothing has been decided for certain like this. Champions Online will probably be the test bed for whether they can do this.
Cryptic has indicated that the server technology can handle the large number of people, and they would like one server.... but that they will be testing the playability for everyone with CO and STO to make sure that the distance from server type issues are not a problem. I don't have the quotes exactly, but they have assured us if there is a latency issue for players afar, or other single server issue, that multiple servers could be used.

I honestly hope they don't do sepetare servers for america and europe. The delay is something that influences if a game is fun or not but if it isn't a major disadvantage they should stick with the one server idea.

Well, a single server can work; EvE online hasn't died yet, despite claims to the contrary, and has users from across the world, except China (due to legal reasons, they have their own server).
I'd prefer a single server myself; more players= More interaction. More interaction= Better odds of the unexpected happening. And the unexpected is where the fun really begins if you ask me :)
Also, having one large community would be much more fun in the long run, especially with the number of fleets already established...

I think we can assume the answer for STO is the same answer given for Champions Online:
Q: Will it be released outside of North America?
A: Absolutely! Atari’s extensive expertise in the European gaming communities is a huge asset in ensuring Champions Online makes a big worldwide splash.

one question remains however, if CO and STO aim for people of all ages like children, theese will have a hard time on the servers because not everybody is good enough with english to play an MMo
(maybe the first step to oppose 12-year-olds owning the servers ^^)

I go with the assumption that the game will be released worldwide. If not all at once, eventually. I imagine that there have to be trekkies in every part of the world(for the most part).

Even people who aren't Trekkies ore Trekkers would try this game, after all, it is a new MMO, and gamers get intrigued, by new innovative combat systems, new concepts, and the fact that it is "Star Trek Online", would spark some interest into looking into the game.
