I hope we all start out in the game a junior officers. Only thru the ability of showing we have the ability to command(though quests perhaps, PvP ranking, exploration, etc) would we win the ability to command a star ship.
Our first command I would hope would be on a junior class ship, and not necessarily be able to command a ship like Enterprise right off. That type of command should be earned.
If you screw up a mission or series of missions,(die so many times) I think you should be demoted in rank to lesser starships until you prove your worth again.

this seems to be the general consensus of the community as a whole - most people have mentioned that starting with something like a Runabout would be nice. I don't think anyone truly wants to start with a big starship . I know I don't - I like being to work my way up through a game.
welcome to the forums btw!

i think most of the community was hoping for starting as an Ensign or even a cadet in or straight out of Starfleet academy. Commanding something like a runnabout or a delta flyer.
the likelyhood though, is we will start as Ensign or LT JG, with something like a miranda (think old bucket of bolts) or a saber class scout/escort vessel. the devs have said we WONT be a cadet, so most of us are figuring no academy.

I'd think that our starter ships would be something like a saber or nova (Fed side at least) since I can't really see officers being commissioned a runabout since they aren't a ship that would be sent out of extended mission. They need a base of operations, a station/planet/ship.

Shame, that - hopefully they'll implement an academy option later on, maybe to "upgrade" our officers abilities.

Though maybe in the tutorial, provided it takes place at the academy, we're cadets and when we graduate is when we finish the tutorial.

the siad we would start off whit Friagte/light cruiser the only too ships i know that fit the bill are the nova class and the defaint class off hand
What are the odds that a tutorial type zone will be implemented 1+ year into a game's lifetime, when most of the players have already learned the game?
True, not impossible -- DDO is implementing a tutorial zone right now, far into its lifespan.
But I do think it's unlikely and counterintuitive.
It's like having endgame content available two hours into the game and yanking it after two weeks, except in reverse. Instead of endgame early it's startgame late.
You'd imagine it'd make more financial sense to implement a start/end zone when *most* players are in that bracket...

I'd guess Defiant being at least tier 3.
