As we've heard in a number of interviews recently, groups sent on away missions will be restricted to 5 members only, be it comprised of NPC's or actual players. But what about space?...
In fairly recent interviews and most notably, the live Q&A, Craig mentioned that the developers often play 6-8 per side PvP matches and have even engaged a Borg in end game content with a group of 15 players, in space. Due to the limited size of the DEV team, we cannot assume that 15 is the maximum, but what do you guys think the limit of space based groups/teams should be?
Myself, being an avid fan of EvE online, would like to see battles on a similar scale as those fought inside of that MMO. Somewhere in the region of 100 would quench my thirst for truely awesome and easily organised PvP battles.

I would like fleet battles to be at least 40 v 40. Bigger the better :)
For normal PUGs 5-6 seems good.
For raids (which is probably not a good word for it) where you have schedualed predetermined groups 15-20.
Massive battle can be cool when it is free-for-all stuff, but IMO when a game is very strategic trying to get 40+ people to be on the same sheet of music is like herding cats. Also I prefer being able to really know the people I group with. In anything larger than 20 it is hard to create friendships with everyone in the group.

I liked the 8 player teams they've gone with on previous games. It wouldn't be hard to fill team slots with NPC bridge crew thrown into the mix.
It also occurs to me that we'll need a few red shirts to act as "decoys." Yeah, that's it, "decoys."
I do not see it as much as a need for you an your fleet this is because most of them have a vent on TS for voice chat but when it comes to space I would like to see at less 10 because your not all ways going to just play with your fleet.

PvP is no a limited to just the people in groups sooo 40v40 can happen with no one in a group.

Being an old WoW player, I had the pleasent (and sometimes unpleasent) expereince of raiding in 40 man, 25 man and 10 man raids. I also participated in some of the rare world PvP raids that took place on my server, upwards of 100 people would gather and slog it out at the gates of Stormwind and other such places. The larger raids generated so much excitement that I eventually decided to quit up on hearing of the 25 limit inside of WotLK.
I've always believed that such low grouping limits inhibits the true splender of a raid. I also believe that if the limit were set at a lofty 100 or more, then people would adapt to that truth and learn to play efficiently inside of such a large gathering.
If the game follows the idea of a single server, then raids of 25 people are, in my opinion, simply unacceptable. We could be looking at upwards of 100,000 subscribers, the potential for 'organised' PvE and PvP raids/battles of 100-200 is there. Limited groups of 25-40 would simply reduce the excitement of that Borg invasion, or that Klingon incursion into the neutral zone.
If we go the multiple server route? Then still, up the limit to 50 or 60 I say, Fleets will adapt and recruit to fill the quota, all they need are the available slots on the invite list. Make this game a true MMO eh!
