View Full Version : Just can't put this one down

Let me appologise right up front for this ... I 've got this in my head and just have a hard time putting it down.

(sorry... )

but ... here is my take on a couple of ideas scattered through out an assortment of threads.

1. The Miranda refit
2. A new Exploration / Capitol ship

(yeah they are both Feddie .. )

For the Miranda refit: something that looks like this:

For a new ship for deep space exploration and with the capabilities of adaptability for extreme combat (notice the additional weapons pod) something like this:

(I hope these links work .. if not I will try again later)

Note: these hulls are simular ... BUT the USS Nautilus is larger and much heavier armed. Add to that the additional weapons pod (which can be interchaned with an additional cutting edge sensor pod) .. and this ship becomes a premier ship for deep space exploration or capitol ship in times of war.

And yes .. I deliberatly used the fictional name Nautilus .... as in a fictional tale of this actually getting in game.

:D

OH .. if this needs to be moved .. that's cool .. Just thought it would be good here since that topic has came up a few times.

EDIT:

My apologies for the bad links:

These should work just fine.

Again these are just my concepts of two ships that hopefully might be of some sort of inspiration to the Dev team.

Enjoy.

I like that Seawolf, Buzz. That's a sweet lookin' ship!
The Nautilus is good. A bit..umm...what's the word I'm looking for here? Too "busy" on the saucer? I dunno.
I have never liked the notched effect on the saucer section (I've seen similar effects on other creations), but that's only my personal taste. I guess it has to do with my personal affinity towards continuity and having smoother, flowing lines on a starship. From an engineering point of view, one tries to avoid sharp angles on anything that that is subject to stress...like a pressurized starship under warp effect. That's why airplane windows have curved corners...but, I degress.
I have a question. What is the function of the three tiered areas on the upper part of the rear of the saucer? The tiered area at the rear could be seen as the Impulse Engine. The other two almost look like landing bays for shuttles, except that I noticed one already at the end of the lower hull, so I ruled that out. Also, the angle of the outer two in relation to the warp engines would make shuttle/fighter egresses and approuches a little nerve-wracking for the Chief Engineer.:)
So, I guess I'm saying that not understanding the functionality of the structures makes me wonder why they are there. I'm not saying that it doesn't look cool, I'm just looking at it from an structural engineering point of view.
The rest of the Nautilus looks very nice.
You did a good job with these. Thanks for sharing them with us!:D

here is what I have on an updated Constitution Class. I tried to use construction ideas that would still tell you this is a Connie .. BUT bring it forward to TNG standards.

Ironically this was almost the exact evaluation that one of my toughest critics (my son) had to offer ... And if I didn't know better I'd say you compared notes with each other ....

LOL !

That's cool. I'll take your suggestions to heart. However, for this particular model I'm not sure if want to make too many changes. The tiered area might be better if it were beveled... making a smoother transition. I might try that and see how it works out. The porpose of this area is to provid additional room for either scientific research teams or gear .. or in times of war, for Marines, or other combat related materials or personel. (I'll look at a better way of intergrating in into the hull.)

The areas for the impulse engines: there are TWO on each side (top and bottom) .. I'll see if I can get some better screenies. That style of impulse is to privide multivectoring capabilities for a vessel this size. These are located in front of the nacelles.

The shuttle bay (s): there are two (much like the Soverign class).

The torp tubes: there are several: AFT: 4 standard photon (above and below the aft shuttle bay). FORWARD: One Q-torp rotating Two fixed standard photon torp (either side of the deflector dish). OPTIONAL forward: the weapons pod: two fixed q-torp.

If there is enough interest I can take the time to paint some of the pollies ( I can't unwrap to texture yet .. don't have the program I need)... BUT I can do enough you can tell what is what.

I do have some other stuff out there .. (Posted in another part of the fourm board) .. if it's okie I'd like to stick with these for now.

I really hope that these can in some way help with a future development of a good Miranda refit for late TNG design, as well as a possible ship for a new NX class.

BTW.. good solid feed back .. thanks.

All I can say is WOW! I most definitely am impressed. Thank you for sharing these with us.

Do you have any more? How long did it take you to build these?

Initially it took 4 days in my spare time after work..... but I'm looking at tweaking .. sooo the product is not done yet.

I do have some more ... but there again .. I really just can not get this Miranda thing out of my head ...

I've actually done these with the Miranda as well...

Building an Advanced Miranda Class or Sea Wolf Class has been on my mind for quite a while now ....actually. Ever since I played SFC OP... soo I could probably put one of these togeather in my sleep.

here is a link to the other part of the forum with some of my other stuff.
http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=14298&page=5

However, the main thing I would like to stress is that there are possibilites for a late TNG Miranda .... and I do hope that those members of the Dev team are looking giving consideration for that solution. It is not my point to undermind but rather to offer geniune suggestions when ever I possibly can.

Note: I was really late last night with some RL issues that needed attention. I should have the updates tonight and the picts posted really late tonight ...

In the mean time I'm hoping this will serve as a helpful suggestion to those who are watching over the development of the ships in game.

I really love that Seawolf design! It is the 24 century look and upgrade that the reliable Miranda Class vessels need!

A standard that my PC wont allow. Your work Olbuzzard, again shines m8.

I've done that starship and will post it later. I cannot do anymore dam it...

I have however remembered the MIRROR advise, which took me to a new level of detail, again my pc crashes out badly if I get over generous with colour. Unfortunatly I had to miss out the deflector dish from the model so before I post I'll try to transplant one using the import command...

Will post it later, nice work Buzzard. Please can you tell me what system you are useing, I'll post my stats later on my machine. I need to see the difference.

I'm running an AMD processor at 1.7 ghz with 1024 DDR2 memory and XP...
Radeon 9800 graphics card with a 400 Mhz GPU, onboard 128 megs.

:)

My next machine hopefully will have bio nural circitry and a quad possatronic CPU... :p

Excuse the duff reflector, I added more colour though.

IDIOM Class Destroyer. I'm proud of this one and hope you like it.
Hopefully the next one, which will be a Klingon Battlecriuser, will have less poly count, or something like that. Enabling for better detail. I'll have to wait a week to start it. I need to catch up on other stuff...

Duras ...

I'll send ya a PM with the specs on my puter..

also I'll probably just stick to the Sea Wolf class and the Nautilus here is this thread since these threads here in this area tend to gravitate more toward the game itself. Both of these ship designs stemed directly as a result of questions and comments on:

1. The Miranda class ( hense the Sea Wolf Class )
2. A new Federation Exploration class (hense the Nautilus)

I almost wish there was a place designated where those of us who do models could discuss stuff. But that is another matter and probaly better discussed in another area of the forum board.

Thanks for understanding .. I will gladly help you in any way I can.

Again wow. I just got really excited when I saw that you had post more. Kinda like when you wait a really long week for a new episode of your favorite show and it's finally here.

You have some mad skill!!!

I'm impressed OB. You're render designs are quite nice.
