View Full Version : Suggestion: Creatin Tool Teaser?

OK here's the idea. It's not entirely new (EnB and spore did similar).
The character creator must be quite well underway. Can you guys at cryptic release it into the public domain. This would create a LOT of interest and publicity. It would spawn 1000s of avatars on message boards all over as well as enabling fleets and guilds create their own races ahead of time.
I have ideas around this too with player created races being given biographies by their fleets which might be incorporated into game database ...maybe?
OK the first idea is a good one though.

If they did this I doubt it would be when there's more then a few months away until release. Pretending/Assuming there's a December release... Maybe October?

Well if the release is late this year the closed beta will have to be spring at the latest and open beta maybe a few weeks before release late fall perhaps. So that considered, the character creator would most likely be finished by beta. So it could be spring or summer to get this out, how about it synched with the film launch?

This would be nice to have but it could take time away from the dev's working one the game its self but if they could do it with out taking a lot of time away from the game it's self I am all for it.

I think this would be kinda cool to have if its not gonna take resources away from game completion. If the creator however is in a completed state and just sitting there waiting to go into the final build and they could just kinda put it out there in a freestanding form (maybe with a way to import your character into the game)
however I wouldn't be disappointed if they didn't do this. I plan on playing normal human. (boring I know....lol)

I'd love it if it worked like the EnB one... when you install the game your character is ready to go, saving those first few minutes after launch. :)

of course I would...lol...and who knows, maybe it would change my mind on what I wanted to play as. lol.

Sounds interesting, but we cant say it wont take time to "program". The preperation for this character creator program would still take time. If they could accomplish something like it, that would be pretty cool. Even if it cost however much that spore creature thing cost, I think I would buy it.:)

I don't see why not them releasing a Demo of the Character creation program. I still got mine from EQ2, and it was fun.
The best part was saving what you created and getting into the action faster. (Which would be nice in STO so you can lock in your Captain's name and Ship's name before someone else does. :p)

This is a good point on why to have it before the game starts :).

From a business standpoint, I see it being a great pre-order incentive.

I'd prefer that they focus on getting the beta ready rather than creating a character creation tool.

Whilst I agree about getting beta ready (oh how I agree!), I think theres relatively little work to get something like this out and the cost/benefit to Cryptic and the community is huge.
Even if they did a tie in so it was released around the time of the film, that would be awesome.

In my browser sometimes it keeps showing the same ones unless I vote.
It seems quite viral to me. Letting prospective players see what is being created with the character creator...
So even if they don't have a finished Character creator, they could at least let us see what people are making.
I have spent over an hour clicking next on that page, and even tried typing in my own numbers in the address to see if I could find like reject ones or something :p

Are those characters created by beta players?
