View Full Version : Must Haves for Ship Interiors

Wondering what everyone else thinks about areas they consider important for interiors. I assume that different size/class ships will have different options.

In order of importance, I think we can all agree on 1 and 2. What would be next? Are there any areas that should only be on larger ships?

1 Bridge.
2 Ready Room

Areas I can think of:

Medical
Engineering
Teleport
Shuttle Bay
Holodeck
Crew Quarters
Dining Room/Pub

As a third I think I'd have to go with holodeck.
As numbers 4 and 5 I'd like engineering and medical to eventually be in as interactive interiors.
Finally for anything galaxy and bigger a social area like Ten Forward.
Crew quarters would be ok on a starbase so we can invite friends over that are there, but isn't a must on ships for me.

I agree that places like DS9 and fleet bases are fine for social areas. It also seems more appropriate for groups of captains. When ship interiors are included, I think Bridge, Engineering, Sickbay, cargobay and the shuttlebay are most important and could probably include some interactivity for ship/crew management. I'm still hoping the Bridge at least makes it to launch as it just seems so vital.

Astrometrics would be cool for checking out future missions and areas mapped during exploration

I find pressing the "Mission Log" key and the "Map" key easier.

Also, I find crew quarters pointless. Although, that depends on what you're referring to. If you mean your character's quarters, then yes. But if you mean NPC quarters, then it's pointless.

My order of importance is

1. B ridge

2. Captains Quarters or Ready room (if we only had one of these to customize and store rewards in, I would be happy)

3. Engineering and Sickbay. (These we only need for missions unless they will help us in crafting or some other useful ship function that can't be performed from a station on the bridge.)

4. Transporter room and shuttlebay. (these would be nice to go to or it could simply be a cutscene when you decide to use them to get to a planet, starbase, or other ship.)

5. In larger ships I would like a gathering area like ten forward but we could simply have large gatherings on bases or planets.

6. Cargo bay (this could simply be a drop down menu for inventory so it may not even be needed).

7. Holodeck. (Depending on what we can use it for it could be higher on the list).

8. Other ares of the ship like an armoury, hallways, jeffries tubes and any area I forgot. These could be higher on the list such as if the armoury is needed to craft weapons, otherwise it could simply be a drop down menu such as the cargo bay for the storage of your ships weapons.

Yes. We need a 6th thread about this :D

Youll get your interiors in the first patch, 3 months from launch.

edit; also, saying "holodeck" will get Craig Z to punch you in the face. It's not happening at the moment because theres too much it can be used for.

Except all the other threads were talking about why we need/want them, this one is asking what would you like from them. Big difference.

Not really. This topic has risen up in the other ones abut 4 times. It's not really needed. But hey, at least it's entertaining!

edit: and yes, before people go thinking i hate PSIs, I don't. I'd love to be able to walk around my bridge or Engineering. But i can wait :)

I've been on this forum for a while, and I can't seem to find the link to one thread specifically for what you want out of ship interiors(at least any on topic). If you would like to provide a link then you can continue bashing the op for making this thread. I just wen through the 10 pages of "most recent posts" and I don't see this thread, therefore I think it qualifies for a new thread.

On a side note, every forum needs to rehash the same thread over again, once a thread hits x amount of replies it becomes a burden to read.

I was talking about it happening inside threads. The "zomg crypic no interiors?!?!?!" thread has this topic in there.

also, i'm not bashing the OP. As you can see from both my posts, I have included constructive notes about holodeck, bridge and engineering.

Also, after thinking about it, I'd love to go to the shuttlebay. Those always interested me with their pop-up shuttles (ala EF2)

Sorry then mate, was trying to point out that this was a more centralized topic then just "Interiors" in general; either way;

I personally couldn't care less if all the ship is their(and I'm sure it won't be), what I would "expect" to see are key sections; that are made famous from the show. What I would personally love to have is the following;

Bridge; I could care less if this actually had anything on it that was interactive, just would like to be there

Ready Room / Personal Quarters; Mobile "player housing" is what I would like to see this used for, with all the "trinkets/etc" you've colected able to be displayed

Astrometrics/Sciece etc; Would serve as the "map" but also as a lore standpoint, it would show the map but also include information about each thing you have visited/explored etc

Of course anything done in the interior would be quicker to do through a menu, and you will probably use that majority of the time, but I think the interiors could serve as a interactive depth stand point, when your in a hurry you'll just menu where you want to go, but when your just "leisurly exploring" you might have more fun looking through astrometrics.

To be honest, I doubt this would ever happen, but I want to be able to explore every square inch of my ship. Every single little bit of it.

It's cool, i know text is confusing sometimes :(

You're right with that statement. It would be different if we didn't have thing's to do at launch. I've got a feeling its why they're holding interiors back. you know, like getting to admiral, or whatever the max rank is.

but we really shouldn't talk about this. We'll summon the "ZOMG NO INTERIORS" trolls :( :( :(

What do people think of the jefferies tubes? I know that theyre one of the most iconic interiors in the shows, but are they actually a viable interior to use in the game?

While I would absolutely love to have a starship wandering exploration deal, I think its best left for a game of its own, as its not the main point of this MMO. Would I pay for an offline game with the basics of this mmo, and fully explorable interiors? Hell yes I would, but its not what this game is focusing on, and thats fine with me.

Where I get sad about, is the interior of the ship is a big part of the series, and deserves its place in the game in some way. While we won't get 12 decks with all the bells and whistles, I think that all the "iconic" areas need to be there, bridge, engineering, etc etc. As for jeffries tubes, I believe that fits in with the "doesn't really need to be there" thing, where a magical turbolift that took you too all the key areas would be a perfect middle ground for everyone.

Bridge
Medical
Engineering
Shuttle bay
Captain's quarters/ready room

Beyond that, I'm not too fussed. What I would like to see is at least a few stretches of corridor (turbo lifts don't open directly into medical), just so I can have a bit of a wander and admire my handiwork. Just so long as interiors are as customizable as the exteriors; if they aren't then I'm not sure I want them at all to be perfectly honest.

As for jeffries tubes, being a big fan of Elite Force, I would like to see them in missions at least.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. They'd be cool, but why would we need them? My ship isn't getting taken over. unlike Janeway, I know my auto-destruct codes :D

Also, originally (not sure if this is still going to be the case) Cryptic had said that interiors were only going to be used for RP or friend hangout locations. nothing major would be happening inside your ship.

in that case they can give you a 2D map with the game and a notepad with pencil for the log...:D

not so much a necessity but would be interesting if there was the ability to have an area with a "3d" interactive map... you toggle the system and all info you have can be brought up whether it's basic data that everyone has or any data your ship collected on previous missions... hell it can even be accessed by pushing the map button

For the record, I could not find a thread specifically listing what we would like to see either. My intention was to take the focus off of whether or not there would be interiors, and more on feedback for what we would like.

Just trying to stay on the positive. :)

Astrometrics is a great one!

They are about, as I remember talking in them, but I imagine you'd have to be a black belt in search fu to find it. :D

But yes, it's important to recognise that this is a thread about what we would like to see when it's possible, not what we demand or else!

as much as possible at the end of the day having a sovereign class with the interior size of a shuttle would be weird
