As far as Star Trek is concerned, this is a huge issue. I believe music can either make or brake a game or movie. Star Trek music is epic! It stirs the soul as well as conveys emotion to the audience.
I for one hope that Cryptic has really put some thought into this aspect of the game.

I find that after one or two times the music becomes so much white noise. Sure the music should be good. But it's not a game breaker for me. I've got plenty of stuff to listen to on Itunes.

Which is why it would be awesome if STO worked with media players so we can play our music through the game.

Gotta agree 100% with that.

Music and sound never seems to matter much in MMOs. Good or bad that's just the way it is. After playing an MMO for 10000 hours played the music just fades into the background.

yeah - most games are like this. If I ever get tired of a games music I just plug my iPod into my Xbox and come up with my own soundtrack.
HOWEVER....I still think that music and sound design are important, and while they aren't completely what sells a game, star trek wouldn't have worked without the sound design that went into the series and movies, and I think similar effort should at least be tried to put into any game that bears the title.

I'm much in the same mindset, I usually turn off music and listen to my Itunes.

I agree that for a MMO that the music gets ignored after awhile. However, I look for it to denote special and extraordinary things: such as the launch of your ship from dry dock. Battle sequences and achievements.
Opening music for a game can really psych you up and get you into the game each time you play. Like the opening of WoW, it adds an awe factor to your experience. Of Course not all games and movies have alot of soundtracks with them. With Star Trek tho, you expect great soundtracks!

Everything is a repost, of a repost, of a repost. Honestly if it isn't activley being discussed lets stop bring up the "its been talked about before" thing as of course it has.

So what? New people come along and want to discuss things about STO, let them discuss it and unless you are going to seriously take part in the discussion, step back and don't say anything at all.
Contribute to the conversation or don't say anything at all. I'm tired of the people who say things have been reposted to discussed...sure, but new people come along and want to discuss it too without having to read through hours and hours of threads.
In the end, who cares?

Why don't you go use the search function and post the links to the threads then, the search system is hardly useful.
Not to mention the fact anything thats not on the last 10 pages of threads should be worthy of a new thread anyways.

Some games having amazing sound and music that I never tire of...whereas some have music and sound that need to be shut off after so many hours of playing. It is just a matter of getting it right and composing music and making sounds that really enhance the environment and situations of the game. The two games that come to mind to me right off the bat are The Godfather and Elder Scrolls IV. Great music and sound. What would it be like to see an image of the Enterprise without its accompanying fanfare? The transporter without the actual transporter sound?
I don't think I'll be shutting off the music or sound to this game. Imagine watching the show or a movie with only the speaking actors and no sound effects or music ?

Who cares? I've been in these forums a long time and it can be difficult to find particular threads...someone who is new isn't going to go to that much trouble.
Senior members of this community should be more helpful than to tell all the new or not so new people how and where to post in the forums. Either participate in the conversation or don't. If it was a huge issue, I'm sure a moderator or Cryptic would tie the threads together or mention the existing thread that is likely buried in hundreds of threads that have similar words in them.

I agree..
We need to encourage new folks ...
I did start a thread a few days ago on 5.1 sound or better. For what ever it is worth I do hope there is some serious sound affect to go with the game !

they should. Posting something that is seen over an over to the people that has been here for a long time do not need to see thing over an over no point.

hahaha it took you what, 2 seconds to read what the topic was about and then it would take you what, 1 second to go back to the list of threads?
If I read something that I have read before in a different thread I just go back out and see what else is new, I don't lecture on thread searching and then say it is a waste of time, when it takes no time at all to get out of a thread you don't want to discuss ;)

Honestly though, you chose to open the thread, its in the TITLE, just don't click on it? Or, don't troll the threads every single day?

As long as the music is nothing like the Character Creator trailer (Cheese!)
I'm good =)
Sorry, but there's so many good examples of good music from Trek in the newer series and movies, not just cheesy fanfare ~

LoL looking at the past posts on this topic, members are even referencing posts further back. But really i just wanted to know what some of our newer members would say and to make sure to put this discussion on the front page a little longer.
