Hey guys! I'm back and I'm sure you are all full of questions from the interviews and reviews you heard about from the show. I'm going to make this thread THE thread to ask questions and get feedback from myself and the staff here at Cryptic.
I can't wait to hear from those of you who I actually met. :)

Question on most people's mind- Ship interiors, present at all out mission, or mission-only for now?
Also, nice to have everybody back. Felt kinda empty here...relatively.

Awen,
Welcome back from New York! It sounds like Cryptic had a great weekend at NYCC.
Is it possible to get a round up of all the press that Cryptic did, in terms of interviews, so that we know what to look for?
Thanks very much!
Will fleets be able to build Starbases, to have meetings with their characters and not even to see the ships of your fleet members?

Now that we've had a character customization video, can we have a starship one :D

Is there any restaurant in NY that wasn't visited by Cryptic staff?
Did anyone get food poisoning?
Just wondering, and chilling.

Good Evening Awen,
Did anyone ask about the console version of STO at all at the show?
what was the overall feeling/opinion for the game from people generally?
lastly Beta test will it be PC only for the time being or might it be PC and Console at the same time for the Beta test?
Hope all you guys had a really good time and everything.
Thanks.

The klingon faction is called "Klingon Defense Force"?!? It doesn´t sound very klingon to me...?!?

That's the name, from televised Star Trek (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Klingon_Defense_Force), of the Klingon military. It's the corollary of Starfleet, which is obviously a subordinate entity to the Federation, as the KDF is to the Klingon Empire.

Glad to hear you are all back safe and sound.
Sorry I couldn't go! I don't live more than 2hrs from NYC
Only question I have is if there is any word on the other not-so-popular races (Ferengi, Andorian, Tellarite) and especially Gorn in the game. Has there been any background written on them? Any more artwork?
As well as ships. Do factions not of Federation/Klingon get their own racial ships? Or do I have to ride in a stinky Klingon one .. ewww

Does Craig really "juxtapose" that often... I thought simple language is supposed to be used in mass media interviews! :D
I wouldn't mind hearing about the STO mural at Comic Con... who made it and with what program... how long did it take to make... and how much did it cost to get it printed large enough to fit the side of the booth?!? (I'm in marketing, and I know that can be astronomic!)

Awen,
I can't say enough how grateful I am for the opportunity to have met you and the members of the team. I've never been to a ComicCon before, but I must say that my first was phenomenal! It always amazes me how Star Trek has the ability to bring people together in a way that not many other forms of entertainment can. Not only did I have the opportunity to meet you and other key members of the Cryptic team, but I was with great company - my Lotus Fleet comrades. I even had the chance to meet members of other fleets - no drama, no politics... just good 'ol fun!
Again, thanks for all your hard work! I know I speak for many of us when I say we truly appreciate it!

P.S. Will you be posting pictures from the Con?

hey Awen welcome back..
i couldnt make it because i live so far away.. i saw alot of video's and you seem pretty dang smart and know alot about STO just for being a Online Community Lead.. do you do some programing on STO?
Craig talked about exploreing the galaxy... the 1 question i had was. Space, is it endless? can you go in 1 direction for 5 hours and explore new stuff no one has ever seen be for? and would it take 5 hours to get back to the Federation?

Very sad to hear that ship interiors probably won't be in. Yes, I hear you want them in after launch... but I've heard that before. Remember battles between bases in CoH? That never happened. >_<
I just want to make sure I can at least walk through normal areas of my ship. The Bridge, Ten Forward, Engineering, my ready room, etc.
The captain doesn't just sit on the bridge.
I remember hearing that beaming would be something where you just choose where you are going to go, and you beam there, and that if you wanted to role play going to the transporter room and doing it that way, that was an option. I hope at least that stays in.
Other than that, the question on my mind... are you coming to the San Diego Comic-Con? ^_^

Okay...so this is the first case where the german synchronization is better then the original...i cant remember to hear something like "defense force" in the german version...

I was at the comic con, there were things thye couldnt discuss due to the evil redheaded PR girl, but here is what I recall:
1. Game will be released "much much sooner than people think"
2. Ship combat is currently 3rd person, not on the bridge ie BC. I asked if that was an after launch thing and Craig seemed to think it was a possibility, personally I really hope so, thats much more like Star Trek, to be sitting on the bridge.
3. Game will support SLI
4. Skill based
5. No specifics on death penalty, just that its a game, should be fun, so not very severe
6. No real questions came up about crafting, sorry
7. You will feel like your in a big ship, slower turns, will be tactic/ skill based for combat, like Star Trek, try to take down a shield face, etc to pound the hull. Transfer power from here to here, etc, like in the shows/ movies.
8. Goal is 1 server, ie EvE
9. Shockingly, nobody asked how the goat was....I totally forgot myself...
I will say this, everyone involved with Cryptic from the booth to the devs were really really nice. The Champions people were also there and also really cool. Nicole was alot of fun. They had this thing where you could get your picture taken for a superhero ID card, the girl running it was smoking hot.....
All in all a good time.

7. But what if your not in a big ship?

3. SLI?
7. But what if your not in a big ship?
SLI is combining 2 (or more) Nvidia graphics cards. AMD/ATI have the same which is called CrossFire.
Some games don't scale well when adding an extra card, i.e. you only get a performance gain of 20% by putting in an extra card.
Smaller ships will be more manoeuvrable than big ships so we would feel the difference in combat and would have to adjust tactics according to ship size.

.Extremely disappointing, and a huge mistake in my honest opinion, but meh, what's a guy to do?

Why? It works just fine with Eve.I believe that is highly debatable, but this isn't the place for that. Many a thread has gone by with many posting on both sides. It would seem they've started leaning one way over the other. The chips will fall where they will and only time will tell.

In my opinion, most of the information about the game that has come out of the New York Comic-Con has been overwhelmingly positive, and I definitely wish I would have been able to be there to meet the people behind the game. That being said, I'm not sure if anyone asked about this specifically but I would still like clarification on ship interiors and exactly how they will be handled; I do think that some people are making far too big of a deal out of the presence (or lack of) ship interiors and I will wholeheartedly support the game no matter what, but I think it would be nice for the developers to discuss this topic in more detail to quell some of the negativity that has started in recent days.

First question in the thread. ;)
Is there any information that Cryptic can offer in regards to the number, the raw number whether Klingon or Federation, of base-design playable starships? I saw a similar question on the subject was asked during the Meet and Greet, and did want to follow up.
Thanks so much. I appreciate the chance you've given us to interact with the development staff here in this thread, and throughout the boards.

Ok I have a question, when you talk about adding species/races (Romulans, Dominion, Cardassians) in expansions are you talking about adding them onto already established factions or creating new factions?
And more forum related but any idea on if/when we'll be able to put banners/pictures in our signatures?

Something I've been waiting a while for is a new history update. Can we expect The Path to 2409: 2385 soon?

I really like the idea of one server, the only potential could be race balance, ie UFP players against Klingon players, if there is an imbalance theres no real way to fix it with only one server. I think the Star Trek universe is better served by a 1 server design, than multiple servers.
The point Craig had made was they have the technology to do one server, he named the guy who designed it, and said the technology could more than do it, and his hope we would break his technology, ie more players which we all agreed.

Great to have you back, Awen. I'm just wondering if Cryptic is planning to hit any other Conventions throughout the year. We'd love to have you for the Hero Con in Charlotte, NC. :D

A question was asked of me by other people into gaming ; Would it be possible to have Cryptic to hold mini cons in different locations on STO's release date or soon after, so that we could all be on line at once for some grand kick off event, being as were all to be on a single server. Have some live feeds into a central hub to talk with Cryptic staff, maybe some prize giveaways. But the idea is to get as many people online at once for great grand kick-off.

Thank you Awen!
I looked around on the FAQ and didn't see anything about this having some voice acting as in what Champions Online is doing. I just figure both sides might get some ideas from the other to help push themselves to making their games the best they can be.
My few questions: Would adding voice acting be a reality? If not now perhaps later? Will the ships be designed by the player like the character creation? How much freedom will be given when exploring a planet? What would be the approximate size of the "pet" crew one would be commanding? Will these "pet" crew be chosen by the player or are they just random?
Looking forward to some of these being answered. Thanks again for your time.
