One thing that was noted on the discussion of currency in-game, was trade between the factions (and any other factions that do show up even). It's going to be something inevitable, and even bitter rivals will have reasons to conduct trade. So one thing should be there should be a way for Klingons and the Federation, and any future faction for that matter, to be able to conduct trading, but perhaps througha third party. In this case comes the Orion Syndicate.

Now, the name of this organization seems to be more of a title than an actual reference to the Orions, which we know are apart of the Klingon Empire as far as Star Trek Online is concerned. The Syndicate leaders are unknown and also appear to be highly organized group with spies all over to supply them with information. So, not including potential missiosn for Klingons and Feds both to go after the Syndicate because they are stealing or something, this also opens up the middle man that can help with inter-factional trade.

The Syndicate will basically smuggle anything, as long as the price is right, and thus you have your middle group for the process of buying and selling between factions. Of course the Syndicate will probably have a higher price for such a dangerous activity, but something like that would help create a resource sink for the game as a whole.

I like the idea, but have to disagree on the name. Orions have been portrayed as unscrupulous pirates who have little to no sense of honor or decency - not the best description for a potential trading service, hmm?

I might suggest the Ferengi Trading Alliance, or perhaps something combining the Ferengi and the Orions (The Ferengi-Orion Trading Alliance, or FOTA?) - the Ferengi may steal the shirt off your back, but they'll do so honorably and within the confines of the deal you made with them. Unfortunately, there are some deals even they won't handle, which would be where the Orion smugglers would come in.

Again, great idea, and where can I sign up? :D

They already said something about this, that they are going to have a or looking into having "black market" for the federation and klingons to trade with each other and stuff...I just don't remember where I saw it.

Would not work, as the Ferengi are apart of the Federation, and all things considered, the Ferengi are not any less unscrupulous. The Orion Syndicate is not, however, able to be tied to the the Orions, as all current evidence leads that the group just chose the name for other reasons and not because it as tied in any way to the Orions. Thus it creates a truly neutral party in all things really.

Actually, the statement was, they would look into this AFTER they get a working economy in place. The basic answer was get the economy working first before you add layers to it.
