I think the idea of having a bridge crew is awesome. I am not sure if this has been talked about before, if so please let me know. But I was wondering if we actually get to select our bridge crew or if they are automatically selected for us or if they are the same bridge crew that everyone else gets. Also I am assuming that our bridge crew has different abilities like we do, like some are better at science, tactical, etc.. Maybe they are all generic I don't know.

But I think that it would be cool if we could select our own bridge crew from like a Starfleet database. They could be all fictional characters with different abilities, different races, and different looks. I just have always thought about this when I thought about being a Starfleet Captain.

Let me know what you guys think or know about the whole bridge crew situation.

Thanks

We do know that we will be designing and naming our Bridge Crew in much the same way as our Captain.

Ask Cryptic September 17th:

How customizable will Bridge Officers be? Will players be allowed to choose their race, gender, name and/or physical appearance?

You will be able to fully customize your Bridge Officers' race, appearance, gender, name and physical appearance. It wouldn't be a Cryptic game if you couldn't. You will also train and customize their skills and abilities throughout their career.

Your away team will be you and members of your bridge crew unless your group is full with other players. With what marscentral said, that pretty well sums it up.

The topic that is so near and dear to my heart (as far as STO goes)...

As far as we can tell they are fully customizable!!! It is like getting the chance to RP 5 (or more) characters at once!

I guess this gets more into away teams than bridge crews, but I'm say flying a convoy to a planet with 4 ships. That's 4 captains. If we get say a 4 person away team, why would I form a away team with the other captains, but instead tell them to meet me planet side with there teams so we have 16 characters there as oppose to only 4?

I like the idea of being able to stat grow my crew, hopefully the points will be crew member specific and not ship specific. I think it would be a neat concept if we could play as a crew members avatar at star bases. This would be very interesting to have your crew be your ground alts but once on the ship you are the captain again. I just would still like the option to have 1 fed captain and 1 klingon captain.

Not sure.
I think it'll be a "each captain chooses one of his/her bridge crew to use" but I'm no expert.

Because if your on a mission team, in order to do that you'd have to break up the team. Which means only the person with the mission gets xp.

That assuming that the xp is given by the mission and not certain actions. We don't know. But it is a good counter to promote grouping and smaller away teams.

Are you grouped with the convoy of 4 ships or not? I'm sure if you are grouped you will have no choice, but to include the other captains in your away team build. On the other hand if you are not grouped you will not be sharing any missions with the other captains thus leaving you and your crew to tackle them. Thus you would be effectively soloing the content, which will likely be harder to do on missions that are above your "level/rank".
