When I first heard about this I was thrilled! Specially when I head it has EvE features!
Logging to the forum got me worried with all kinda console questions! Most mmo`s fall gos lack of intrests. Make it real mmo, where you can choose how to play and what to shoot.

Most todays mmos do not offer anything, like wow its mass grinding to get something.

Make it possible to attack other players ships to beam your strike team onboard and assault it after taking their shields out. Allow other players to play on groups fighting on the ship at space or indoors. Guilds should be able to play with one or multiple ships, so one "guild" one "crew"

The game should also have LARCS!! so some larcsing ingame would be nice, just give the StarTrek online some freedom to make own path. There is alot of people playing and they all have their own ideas what they want and how they want to play.

I wait this so much but I have the feeling that when it comes its 1 month game with 2 weeks fun :| all the mmo`s after 2000 have been complete waste of money PLEASE make this worthy of playing next 5 years! Let players evolute the game, allow everything and ignore whiners ;) !

PS: we all remember StarWars online and what happened to it. But you gould level your character there without fireing a singleshot. you gould completely custom your character and its talents and feats, build own citty fly on space build your own ships and wly them with your friends co-op. It was freedom it was real MMO. Let players be what they want and play how they want.

If WoW was nothing but a grind I take it you never played any Korean MMO'S. Getting from 1-60/70/80 is nothing short of a joke in WoW compared to the time it takes to level in Lineage 2.

WoW's leveling system is spot on in my opinion. They set it up so you can level many different ways. Through questing, grinding mobs, or running dungeons. Lineage 2, your only option is/was to grind mobs.

If you want a game to last 5 years, it's not the leveling you need to worry about. It's the end game content. Some MMO's didn't have any endgame PvE action, some didn't have any valid form of PvP other than fighting people in open fields(which some people like, and more power to them) and some games just didn't release their game in full. They charged you the price of the game plus your monthly fees and didn't give you anything to work twords, just a number next to your name representing how much time you wasted( then again this could be argued about all MMO's)

Either way, I understand not everyone likes WoW, but you have to realize there are a lot of good things to mention about it. As long as Crytic looks at what all the other MMO's did that were right, we MIGHT have ourselves a good game going here. If not, everyone will have wasted a $100 or so just hoping it was a good game.....either way they make their money.

I must add some:

Think about this, not all players would be intrested of space flight so they should be able to hang around on the uilds ship and play their characters with others exaple on holodeck. Main missions/raids would be the thing when the ship/crew is somewhere where the mission actiually is.

But if its that all players must have a starship it becomes guite booring, maybe someone does not want to be a captain but maybe a smuggler or some bountyhunter, maybe a merchant or engineer?

Best part would be to run inside the ship while its on combat, as an engineer try to fix shields somewhere!

Think of this, you are on the ship with your friends chatting on TS or on vent. Your captain/guild leader is on deck and sounds the alram of enemyship, all the online people on the ship would need to act and take their places run to their consoles or try to eliminate the beamed enemy forces. If something this would be COOL!

WOW is not mmo its something else ;) Yes I know the asian grinding. What comes to wow is that its the same thing all over again, only good thing on it is that it works but does not actiually give you anything, there is no fun after you get your gear and basically it should not ba about items but about experience, now its all about arenas and too easy instances. Its just simply too simply.

I still perfer old SWG to be most open MMO after UO. Do what you wish where and how you liked it. 100 ways and no rules. Thats something.

--- Most inportantly does there need to be levels?
--- and my only option was nto to grind mobs, the grinding does not stop after your leveled its on its start. Quests are booring. go there kill wolfs, go there again kill wolfs, now go there and kill wolfs and loot some legs, then you kill the wolf boss. move to the new zone kill undead wolfs blaa blaa blaa.

First of all welcome to the forums!

It's already been stated that co-op on one ship will not be done, maybe as an expansion down the road if they can make it work. They would have to make a separate game for every position, otherwise it would get boring very quickly. Never forget this is a game and supposed to be fun. What you can do is work together during away missions and fly your ships together in combat (each his own ship).
The lcars interface will definitely be in game and leveling will be done differently. No details yet but your character can grow in multiple directions depending on what path you take (PvP, PvE, exploration, diplomacy etc.)

For more info please read the interviews, Ask Cryptics and the faq.

Look at it this way, if they had to make an mmo with all the co-op features in, you would have to wait another 3-5 years more with no guaranties that it would even work... then I prefer to have a game this year and have them look into it in the future.

That might be also true, I hope that it has something cool to do, so its not just fastly to max level, but be able to play and be usefull from the beginning. and Diffrent thant todays mmo`s we need something new beond todays mmo`s

Some of SWGs systems were okay. Their skill system was decent and the complexity of their crafting (but NOT the interface to use it) was cool.
But it lacked content and what was added, at least for the first 6mo while I played, was a joke.
And yes, you could skill up your entertainer or medic without firing a shot ... and then you max out that skill and then what? Gyrate in a cantina hoping for tips or sitting in a building waiting for folks to come in needing medical attention? Or max out your armor crafting and then what? Go around, place your harvesters again due to another resource reset, and craft more armor? Each of those things can have some entertainment value but, I don't know many people who were lining up to place SWG just to be a Twi'Lek grinding out tips in Mos Eisley.

SWG tried to simulate (at first until JTL and CU) the SW universe as the kind of day to day, this is what goes on, kind of framework. And fell short for a lot of people for having much for long term playability. Once you capped out your skill system there wasn't much in the way of progression. And with them limiting it to one character per shard per acct, you couldn't even create alts to play with your friends unless you got a 2nd acct.

WoW on the other hand is a gear progression game. Yes there are other facets to it but at its core, its a do this to get that piece of gear. Whether its Arena/BGs to get "pvp currency" for better pvp gear, or heroics/raids to get better PvE gear, it's gear centric. And its fine if you enjoy or at the least, don't mind, a gear progression game. And it sucks if you loathe that type of game.

I would like to NOT see STO become a "gear is next to godliness" MMO. I do want their to be a way to advance your avatar/ship through discoveries and technologies but, imo they should be small incremental bonuses so as not to overly impact the combat. I have zero problem with someone discovering a new phaser tech that gives them a slight advantage but imo it's poor design if that new tech equates to a "I win!" button.

As for the OP's "allow us to do everything" sentiment, sorry but, I think you'll be sorely disappointed if you're hanging your hopes on that for this game. It's pretty clear from what we've been told about the game (which admittedly is not a ton) that Cryptic has a set focus or a scope for what this game will be about with regards to the ST IP and it doesn't appear it's going to be as open ended as you desire.

That does sound amazing, the immersion would be complete and it would be thrilling no less!

But since we cannot have player crews this will not happen!

One of my fears is that STO is going to turn into an arcade game like Legacy... I think it should be more about a simulation. That's one of my hopes.

I hated the controls for EVE. Tried playing the trial the other day and click to move? Are you serious? Click on tiny specs floating in space to try and target them and end up clicking something entirely different. Ship movement was clunky and awkward. Now don't get me wrong, I don't want stop on a dime turn 90 degrees in one second here. My first ship in EVE acted like a battle cruiser. And it was a small fighter/miner ship. I'm hoping that Star Trek will have key movement with the option for click to move so that people who like that sort of thing can be happy and I can be happy.
