View Full Version : storyline progression

This question is actually aimed more to the dev's or comunity managers, than to the general public on this forum.
However everyone is obviously free to follow-up on this, or add insights if you have any.

So my question is what the longterm planns for roleplaying will be.
Is it something Cryptic will encourage, even consider a large part of the game, or more of a let-it-run-free kinda thing, where players make up who does what in community forums.

Is there someone amoungst the devs who is interested in (or will at least follow up on) the roleplay scenarios in the game itself, rather then those dictated by books and movies.

To give a general example of what I mean:
Due to random events caused by the Roleplaying fleets, it could one day happen that somewhere a tense zone of pvp comes to exist. that certain area's will be considered 'hot' for RP'ers.
Will there be a dev or something along those lines to come up with a storyline around this?
For example by making a newspost on the main page about a fictional faction leader residing at one of the planets there, triggering a large respons from the RP communitys to gaign the upperhand of that planet.
On one hand the people trying to protect a leader, on the other hand those that try to kill him.
The RP side that 'wins' after a period of time either saves or kills that faction leader, therefor triggering a new set of Roleplaying structures. And a few weeks after that, a new post about that leader or it's death can give a new roleplaying plot.
etc..etc..

Or even better, a live event where a dev arranges an NPC fleet to be guarded or something along those lines.

On the other side you have the let-it-run-free approach where the team decides that there is sufficient lore around for players to use some fantasy, and where intrusion/development of the ingame storylines will be non-existant.
Players should decide for themselves how/what they want to roleplay, and we won't come up with smalltime storylines, plots, political intrigues etc etc etc...

Perhaps this post would have been better in the 'Meet the Team thread' about Christine Thompson, seeing that she is a writer for STO, and therefor the most likely person to follow up on the ingame roleplay (if any follow up is done at all).

So to end this big post, a quick summary of the questions
- Is RP considered a part of this game in a sense that it's stimulated and thought about by the team, or more of a side-event which just happens to occur.
- Will there be any follow-up on the ingame roleplaying lines/plots by teammembers
- Will there be smalltime plots/intrigues written up in an attempt to spice up RP (by the team again) or even live events. Or are there no such planns
- If it's followed up, is there a person assigned to do this, or will it be a free choice for a team member to do so in some spare time (if you even have any at times like this)

Hopefully we'll get some good answers out of this.

With regards
imp

the Dev's will post when an if they can add something on this but I would not get my hopes up they may not be allowed to say YET.

Very good questions but i think its a bit too early to ask them. The devs are very limited to what they can say and i think there priority (by what the majority of the comunity want) will be either more ship info or more info on the klingon faction.
