Factions

So you can be Federation or Klingon. But down the road can new factions be entered? I was thinking it might be really cool to play a faction that takes a bit of a minor role, like the Cardassians. I have a friend who thinks it would be cool to play this Romulan style.

Im positive that if there is an expansion new factions will be added. We might even get another one or two in a large content patch before then... who knows?

They have said new factions will come into play in possible expansions. Just a matter of time.

Hopefully this will become a big part of the ST expierence. We can patch and expand till the cows come home with this one ppl :D

Romulans, ferengi and DS9, certainly the borg at some point even as NPC have been hinted at :D

I hope STO is the main game for a while, I noticed that with bridgecommander, for example, its like it don't even exist anymore :S

I am sure at some point they will make the Cardassian Union and the Romulan Star Empire playable. With one as allies with the Feds and the other as allies with the Klingons. Odds are they will keep the two faction system. Till then i will just play as a Cardassian commanding a Fed starship.

You mentioned Ferengi in there...am I mistaken, or did I hear that by the time of launch, the Ferengi are part of the Federation? I can't recall when I heard that but I remember thinking it was odd...maybe it was one of the video interviews :(
