Nobody knows. But I'd assume you just respawn with a penalty. Some people seem to want permadeath for ships. These people are insane.

Well

if you've led a good life, you go to StoVoKor

if you're bad you go to Gre'Thor

In all seriousness, respawn with some penalty probably:cool:

A talaxian freighter hauls your ship to dry dock.

ships should be perma killed I think, and then perhaps you eject in an escape pod ? I think thatd be cool.

until you have to refit your own ship for the 200th time on a Saturday. Then you will be one of the first people on the forums crying about it.

I am thinking there will be some form of emergency Beam Out and you will be in the medical bay of your own ship... More then likely it will cost you either you have to start back at the beginning or some other form of penalty.

As for Ships, Not quite sure what can be done... If you bite off more then you chew you should have to pay for it.. but will players really like the idea of refitting their ship every single time.... May be there should be some type of odds calculation... 96% of the time the ship is a derelict drifting in space and some form of Barge hauls it back to a stardock for refit. But that other 4% the ship can not recover and does explode.. and the player gets their new ship that may be a rolled back version of the one they lost... Maybe missing the most current upgrades that where done.

Not real sure but just my opinion.

For a ship it is a bit of a conundrum. I imagine there will be some sort of deus ex machina to explain your ship blowing up and rematerialising in starbase. Some canon purists will cry "foul", but my advice is to accept it and move on. It was something that had to be glossed over in the show, why build ships over several months if you can (theoretically) just press a button on a replicator?

You call Starfleet, they tow your wreck back to a starbase for a repairs. In the meantime, they give you a loaner ship with that new starship smell. :)

Unless they only intend on running one or two servers, I don't see why we can't have a permadeath server set up for the hardcore/purists/masochists, what have you.

Some nice ideas. I think every ship destruction should have an animation which shows mini escape pods shooting off. While possibly being targetable by an enemy regardless as to whether they are tractored in or destroyed you then respawn at a Starbase or whatever other appropriate location.
It would show a cool escape sequence while giving a plausible explanation as to your survival.
How's that for a solution to total ship destruction?

However death is handled, I am glad that the penalty won't be too harsh because I always get annoyed at games where I have to pay a high price just because I may have performed a risky maneuver or something like that.

Well that's what makes the maneveur risky..

I think that when we die we shall all go to the Great Forest (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/The_Great_Forest)!

Then again, the idea with the pods flying away from the ship being destroyed is a good idea;

...I think you should have to wait at the nearest space station while it gets repaired........ :/
Unless its completely destroyed, in which case you'll just have to make do with a different ship.. :|

Meh, i think i'll have to be agnostic and say that we can't really say until the game comes out;
Im sure they'll come up with something...

As possible food for thought. In EVE online when a ship is destroyed it becomes a wreck. On the wreck, which can be salvaged, some of the equipment remains. The game also allows you to purchase insurance to replace the cost of the ship itself. So possibly a system like that can be made so losing a ship will hurt but you would not have to rebuild it from the ground up every time you die. Just an idea.
