The Star Trek universe is complex and somtimes conradictory, but I can't help but wonder what type of map or layout Cryptic will use for Star Trek Online.

I'm thinking it could be something like what is in the book, Star Trek Star Charts by Geoffrey Mandel?

Unless Cryptic decides to make their own layout for the Star Trek Online universe.

My biggest question with the map is how would they incorporate the newly discovered planets. After a while maps would become too huge as people kept finding new generated worlds to explore. Unless the map only covers known permenant space and generated worlds are only listed with coordinates that you type in or select.

Cryptic could probably make their own map since the shows condratict each other on things that you would assume would be in the star trek "bible" such as the distance between Earth and Vulcan.

They would have to make a 3D map of the Milky Way Galaxy. Because the solar systems and stars are not drawn in a flat line.

Stellar cartography seen in Star Trek Generations Movie. Shows how a starfleet maps are layout.

You may seen chart with flat map on a Computer or Padd. But a flat chart would be some what hard to read if there are many stars in a galaxy.

Smart thing for the DTeam is to take all the listed names of planets, stars, clusters. nebulae, etc. Also use maps from the series and games. Then create a chart with every thing on it.

Many places have hints where they are at in the galaxy. Just need to find them.
