Is there plans to pick other sides rather than being in the "Federation"? I would love a game that lets a person play as the Romulans or Cardassians.

I'm sure they'll become playable in future expansions. Cryptic has expressed wanting them to be playable species in the future.

The Romulans and Cardassians have been confirmed to be in STO later on.
The Dominion too.

Yeah i can't wait, for now we'll have to use the feds or klingons though, which is great for now :) I know i would love to be on the romulan and jem'hadar side though

you can play as one from the start...just not apart of the Cardassian Union/Empire :p

The Dominion too.No they haven't been confirmed at all. Sorry, but that shouldn't be thrown out there as a given, even if it is highly likely they will be. They say they have plans to add new races in expansions, that's about all that's been "confirmed" in that regard.
I hope they will be added later as a race in one of the existing factions.

more factions= more intresting...for me at least,i dislike idea to have 2 factions and in that 2 factions to be everyone...like ''gorn in klingon empire'' wtf.... u will see there A gorn commanding a klingon ship with a klingon crew = fail

I agree, there should be a catch all faction like the Ferengi or Maqui somewhere where other races can go to maybe under the guise of being far to enterprising or individualistic for say the Federation. (ironic words I know)
